missing the centre caps? - they can be pricey, these days.

If you use a 4mm (3mm is more readily available) you don't need longer studs and they will fit to the lip the same as the 7's without spacers. Although you will have 10mm less inner clearance and might get some rub at full lock. The later cars have the stops and fenders clipped from the factor IIRC this started in 91 possibly 92. You can also buy 15mm spacers with studs incorporated and this way you don't have to change your studs. These work with cup wheels but not necessarily aftermarket wheels without the relief on the backside.

Wow. I was going to bid on these, but they went for more than new.

Insanity, winning bid was $5,100... Perhaps I should put my set on BaT!

The air cooled market went through the original spike, leveled out last year and is now set to continue a moderate growth. The 964 is coming into its own for a lot of reasons and you'll likely see unmolested original cars (Coupes in general, C2 specifically) begin a steady appreciation in value. First indicator of this are people who are starting to restore these cars and look to source OE components...like a genuine set of Carrera Cup I wheels.

Another set sold at auction:
https://bringatrailer.com/listing/19...e-911-turbo-9/
Definitely 964 fitment
17x7 et55
17x9 et55
$3700
These same wheels are available new from Sonnen for $3600 a set.
Is there a premium for old wheels that have been refinished which originally came on a car even though they are going to be used on a car that wasn't spec'd with them? Is it the date codes folks are after? I've seen similar pricing on EBay.
I wouldn't mind a set of Cup I's on my 964, but the price for used ones is a little strange to me. Also considering that reps come in at $1100 a set, though they have their own drawbacks.

people with a lot of money do not necessarily have good taste nor are smart/careful with their money

i guess a part of being very rich means you don't have to make an effort to get value for your money, which is a luxury in and of itself

those of us who did not grow up rich but who have made good money over time have difficulty not being careful with how we spend it, even when we have plenty of it

So true... the richer, the less sensitive to money.
But wouldn't they just buy the car they want, ready to go, with wheels?

And if not, they would get a shop to source them.... who may not know where or how exactly.

At the end of the day, doing homework pays off the next day.

If I remember correctly, the magnesium wheels were made by SM as well.

Only seen the back once of mag wheels.
