Am I the only one who isn't fond of light interior?
After a long search I acquired this turbo-look 1994 C4. I'm still pondering what to do with the paint for it has a case of senile acne (road rash). The interior is light grey/ivory which isn't particularly bad but not what I would've ordered had been able to.
Well, I picked up some tweed during my last visit to Scotland to spice it up... here are some pictures.
Before:
After:
The paint, oh the paint.. I believe this is the only Canadian amazon green turbo-look C4.. and as much as I like the colour, I'm not sure I can preserve it! Should I respray the front of the car? what if the paint became mismatched given its age?? would that affect the authenticity of the car?!
I still have all the interior parts to take it back to stock but I feel that real enthusiasts would appreciate a freshened paint, granted no accidents made it necessary.
I'd be very interested in your thoughts!
Cheers,
Moe

The interior changes look fantastic and they match the amazon green perfectly!
My opinion, I would respray the car and fully document the restoration from start to finish.

If I am not mistaken, Porsche used single stage (a 2 part paint) on their cars. It looks as if the bumper has been painted with a 2 stage paint and the clear coat is starting to peel. I suspect it has been touched up, repainted somewhat anyway. I think you can only increase the value by repainting what is a beautiful car. Again, as marine Blue stated, document with pictures before, during, and after to reassure any future seller that you were not trying to hide body work from accident damage.

Nice car Moe. I agree with getting proper paint work done and documented...otherwise you will probably always notice the imperfections each time you get into the car.
Can I ask you what is the offset on your rims front and back?

The issue with Amazon is if it is allowed to weather it looses its luster. I decided to do some paintwork on my C2 and the car looks fantastic far better than it did before and now is like my all original paint 928GTS in same color. My guy was able to match the paint perfectly. Unfortunately, I like dark interiors although I have seen dozens of 964's in Amazon almost all including mine have Cashmere interior which works better IMO than the light gray but I would still have preferred a black interior. Although black carpeting is a nice touch.
Considering miles on the car I would do whatever you want and a quality respray won't hurt just as said document everything and it must be a full windows out job otherwise don't bother.

Thank you all for the comments and the kind words.
@ Marine Blue, @Turbotwoshoes: that's definitely the back up plan.
@DeanL: I agree, but they still look better than those worn out door handles. I'm working on them, but the RS look added a bit of darkness to the interior which I prefer to the light grey.
@Railmaster., @ creaturecat: I'll definitely start with that and have Marine Blue's suggestion as back up.
@Titan475: I honestly don't know off hand, but I will check and report back to you.
@Cobalt: very informative as always! I'm just not sure if my paint guy is as good as yours. I think many would agree that your standards are way higher than average and I fear that by committing to full respray I would go down the slippery slope of "while there, might as well".. I guess I'll start by having the front bumper re-sprayed and take it from there.
The rest of the car looks very decent.. I'll post more pictures later.
As for the interior: do you guys see a point in keeping whatever little left of that light grey leather, or revisiting those seats is in order?
If so what colour would you go for? pictures would be Great!
Thanks again folks

IMO it is a full respray or leave it alone and drive the stink out of it. At least you don't have to worry about rock chips. You could spend some time to touch up some of the big chips up front. I normally don't recommend it but might be worth trying Dr Color chip https://drcolorchip.com/. On cars needing this much it can make a significant improvement although the chips will still be obvious at 8-10 feet but look much nicer in general. You can always have it painted later. Still a great car and you have to love the wide hips.

Now, with older metallic paints how would a water-based paint compare? I have seen pictures of what seems to be resprayed Amazon that looks more blue than green. Could be the picture/lens.. but when you had your car touched what paint did you use?

By 94 most Porsche paints were being switched over to Water born paints. I believe they were all water based by 95. Coloring can vary significantly from car to car just as some cars shift more than others. I can't tell you how many people come up to me and say what a pretty blue car and when I correct them they look at me oddly.
A good shop should be able to match your paint close enough prior to doing any work and if you do a full respray it won't matter all that much. I have had several Amazon green 93 C2's side by side with factory paint and they all vary a little in shade some more green and others more blue but both shift depending on light. My cobalt blue has more color shift in it than any other Cobalt car I have seen from that era. It can range from dark blue to purple to light blue to pink depending on where the sun is in the sky. So there is no right or wrong. I have two Rohdium silver cars a 15 BGTS and an 18 MacanGTS and the Macan is far more blue tint than the boxster which is more gunmetal I would worry about the quality of the end product more than an exact match to what the car was before.
I need to check what we used it was either Galsurit or Sikkens.

Did you happen to notice that 928’s AG is more blue than 964 AG? Migt just be me but I feel even the colous is much richer. No first hand experience but just the way pictures present it.
I think my guy uses Galsurit.

The colorshifting that Porsche paints had in the 80’s and early 90’s is truly amazing. I good high end paint shop should know how to lay down the paint properly go get the same affect.
After seeing the additional pictures I agree that a full respray or just leave it alone. If you do the respray definitely post the progress pics!
