Default 964 CCU Removal

Hello;

This is embarrassing as I “thouoght” I was actually good with these things ....... I got the blaupunkt radio pullers and this CCU is as planted as the pyramids - some amazing factory worker in 1990 never wanted this to ever come out I tried reaching under the dash I can only reach the right hand side of the CCU and nudge it forward a little bit , the other side is covered by some air vent and I can’t get to it .....
Any advice on how to get this thing moving - I mean any advice would be so appreciated !!!! Thank you as always.

My '90 didn't wanna give up its ccu either. If you can get under the dash, between the single-din puller and some force from behind you'll get there eventually

Be careful though. The plastic face plate is pretty brittle

I recently removed the CCU from my 964. This thread may be of some help. Inside to out orientation helps. https://rennlist.com/forums/993-foru...removal-2.html

The removal tool I used came from my Porsche Indy, and is slightly different than the Blaupunkt tool which may be a bit trickier to use.

Here’s a photo of the tool I used. Slight differences that may make the Blaupunkt a bit trickier to catch.

Out of curiosity, can you feel the removal tools disengaging the clips that keep the CCU in there? I remember the first time I did this, it seemed like I kept missing the clips, and I think it is possible to accidentally go to the outside of them. I found it helpful to angle the removal tools slightly outwards as I inserted (think of them as making a point beyond the center of the CCU if you extended imaginary lines from the removal tools... kinda like learning to draw rail-road tracks with depth perception), and then after I felt that clips disengage, immediately angle them inwards to keep the clips disengaged. If that works, as you start to pull, you should feel the CCU let go from the mounts. It was extremely frustrating the first time I did it. The next trick is getting it past the cruise control & wiper stalks. It helps to move the wiper stock all the way up, but be sure to return it to its "off" position before starting the car or you'll be in for a surprise!

Dear Ladies & Gentleman :
All this information was incredible and it's finally out I believe as you had suspected my guides were misaligned and this was trivial to its removal. I am much indebted for all the help and guidance. Thank you !!!
