This thread has gone dormant for the winter, but all of that is about to change.

I’m finally getting around to refurbishing the calipers. I polished down the spring plates, and sourced some new hardware. Last night I painted the two rear calipers. It’s all about the prep work, including the paint booth. Things went pretty well, but I suffered one paint run on the very last wet coat. Doh. If I have the time I will wet sand the run, but time is short. I need to get the calipers finished, as the car is scheduled to go to Eurotech next week for the overhaul. The plan is to do a complete suspension overhaul, weld a roll bar, sunroof delete, and a new carbon fiber frunk lid if it ever arrives.

Lookin' good!

If it's not too late (and it probably is as I've been up north all week) consider clear-coating over the stencil/decal after you apply them.

I think it's time I took a ride and visited the patient.

Best,

Al

Hi Al,

I’m still waiting for the decals to arrive, so plenty of time. A coat of clear would do nicely to protect the decals, if I dare. I seem to be clear coat challenged.

I just finished paintIng the front calipers tonight. One of the calipers dropped to the floor after the second be coat, but the paint had largely dried. I’m not sweating a few imperfections on this car.

I’ve been waiting patiently to take this car out onto the rollercoaster (track) at Palmer Motorsports. I’m really looking forward to getting the roll bar and suspension sorted and seeing how she runs on the track.

Thanks for the feedback, and see you soon!

Jim

I did buy a few cans of VHT 900 degree clear, and I have to say it’s been really easy working with this paint. Great results, and I’m no Rembrandt.

Thanks Dean! I’m looking forward to seeing this all finally come together. Bill Pfister at Eurotech will be doing the suspension overhaul and the roll bar. Yours truly will be doing the sunroof delete. I’ve never really worked with metal before, but I’m looking forward to learning.

I could imagine! Awesome, is he building a roll bar or a bolt in one? Sorry if you have said somewhere. You probably could have chosen a worse car to learn on haha but I'm sure a man of your talents will get it sorted. Really looking forward to seeing and hearing more

Building a custom bolt-in roll bar. Goal is to keep the weight to a minimum.

March Is roaring in like a lion here in New England. I dusted off the snow off the R32 this morning and made my way over to Eurotech in Framigham to start on the sunroof delete.

I removed the drivers seats and all the glass and got to work. The windshield and rear windshield both came out with no drama. I’m wondering what the weight savings is to go with RS rear windshield?

Popped out the rivets, and after some careful work
with a dermal I finally got the cassette out. I didn’t realize that the sunroof was so intricately woven into the roof. There’s a panel that runs across the rear of the opening, and I’m thinking about leaving it there!

March roars in like a lion

Cut the windshield seals and they pulled out with no drama

Ready to go

Need to pop the rivets

Here are a few photos of the progress. Still a bit of the front portion left, and then the plan is to simply glue the panel in place.

Progress

Heated up a piece of metal to slice through seal

Fashioning a longer blade to cut seal in recesses

Had to cut the cassette here to remove it

Cut here

Cassette working side to side

Cassette is out

Do I remove this support bar? It’s pretty well integrated
