Swapped to 17's on my '89...

Seems I've heard that. Any comments or rec's? Thanks I'm no expert on anything but I dont see why you would need spacers if they fit and don't fowl on anything. I had to put 3mm spacers on mine as the brake calipers were almost touching the spokes, but that's with my particular wheels. |
Are you running Cup 1's?
Width, ET and tire sizes? |
Turn the wheels lock to lock and see if they touch anything. If they don't, your all set. You should also do this while driving. Also, might want to check how close your passenger side rear tire comes to the oil line.
I used 5mm spacers in the rear for a little more clearance. |
I have an '89 with Cup 1's (replicas) and the spacers (steering block spacers) the literature is referring to are the ones on tie rod ends to limit the movement and to avoid tire contact at full lock with inner wheel well.
I never installed mine and just take my time turning around so you don't rub. Part numbers are Steering stop: Part Number 964 347 325 02 (two required) No other spacers needed. Cheers!! |
I have MY 10 spokes on my mine, 17X7 up front with ET50 running 205/50/17 at RS hight with no rubbing at all. But I do not know if the PO made any mods to steering stops.

+1 - Install the steering stops. No other spacers required if you are running normal size Cup 1s with 205/50 tires.

Tech Bulletin 4440 (5/03) covers all of this, and also mentions that in some cases, there is an area where the fender and front clip meet that may need to be ground down.
|
How many folks are running the revised stops?
|
I have the new steering stops on both of my cars. Both are lowered with H&R Greens run Cup1 wheels.

Width, ET and tire sizes? 225/45's 255/40's 52 and 55 offset I haven't notice any rubbing... HOWEVER..I would like to bring the rear tires out a bit for aesthetics. Spacer recommendations? I know I'll need longer lugnuts. Thanks all... |
