Default 1990 C2 for sale

Guys:

After almost exactly 5 years of ownership, I am thinking about selling my 1990 C2. VIN WPOAB2965LS451581. GP White/black, 91.7K, sport seats with RSA tail (purchased from Nathan here on the board). Interior condition is conservatively 9/10 - no obvious faults or even atypical wear on the driver's seat bolsters. 17" Fuchs wheels with Continental Extreme Contacts - wheels and tires purchased November, 2013 @ 84,850 miles. New Interstate battery just installed last week. NOS Harman/Kardon Travel Pro radio/CD player (but seems to have lost power after the battery installation, so I'll need to check on that). Flat Six LED headlights w/matte black trim rings and still have the originals available. Catalytic converter delete with Cup exhaust (not precisely sure what that means, but that is what I was told by the PO). I can say that the car has an excellent, but obviously more aggressive than stock, exhaust note.

If you let the car sit for awhile, it will leak a drop or two, but it is still the driest air-cooled Porsche I've owned (2 1987 Carreras in my past, together with a 1969 911E targa, 944S, 968 cab and 928S). All oil tank hoses and main oil line replaced, which cured most of the leaks.

Paint is mostly original (roof, hood, front fenders). Driver's door was repainted 10/8/15, when I carelessly allowed the car to roll back with the door open and damaged the trailing edge of the door on a carport post. Total cost for this work was $562.

Typical front windshield rust spots properly repaired 3/29/13, shortly after I purchased the car, with new windshield gasket and windshield (Pilkington) installed. Front bumper cover and rocker covers also repainted then due to chips and scuffs, with front "smile", the under-bumper plastic covers and rubber trim on the rockers replaced. New tail lights and center panel. RSA tail/deck lid replaced at this point, with proper turbo hinges and struts.

Clean CarFax obtained when I purchased the car. However, when I bought the car, there was some very minor paint cracking at the rear fenders, where they join the tail light panel, so it is possible that, as some point, the car sustained a rear end bump. Absolutely no evidence of any rear end damage in engine compartment, however. Body shop repaired this as well. Total cost for this 2013 paint/body work was $4,336. The best body shop in the area (which I have used for years) did the work. Exterior condition is also 9/10. I've done everything I can think of to bring the car to the best condition possible.

Car lowered to ROW height with Eibach springs and Bilstein HDs by PO. Stance with the 17" Fuchs is just right.

All service up to date. I have many (but not all) old service records and the stamped service book, owner's manual, tool kit, air compressor, etc. are still with the car, together with the original window sticker. I do have all service/repair records from my ownership and that of my friend here in Perry, from whom I purchased the car. The car was originally sold in Illinois, but moved to Alabama in August, 1992 @ 8,207 miles and has been a southern car (AL, SC, NC and GA) car for the last 26 years. Heater blows hot, AC blows cold. All the proper engine compartment stickers are present as well. I'm particular about that sort of thing. J

EDIT: Was just going through my old service records and remembered that the odometer stopped working shortly after I got the car. Speedo/odo shipped out for repairs on 3/21/13 at 81,939 miles, so the car may have 100 miles +/- on it over what the odometer reads presently. Bought the car 2/20/13 @ 81,790 miles

Asking price will be $52,500. I've got two old photos that I will post here (crappy point and shoot Kodak camera in poor light) and will try to take some better photos this coming week. Please contact me with any interest.I'll be glad to tell you everything I know about the car. You are welcome to contact my local tech - Roberts Automotive (James Roberts), www.robertsautomotive.net James (GT3 owner and Porsche driving instructor) has done all the work on the car since it has been in GA and his is the only Porsche shop in the middle GA area. He'll be surprised the hear that the car is for sale. The car needs nothing except figuring out what happened to the power to the radio when the battery was replaced. I'll sort that ASAP.

I'd like to see the car stay in the RL family, so I am posting it here first. It is really a nice example. Not perfect, but a really solid driver that is in excellent mechanical and cosmetic condition. I'll be glad to scan/email all the records I have to any serious purchaser. I'm pretty sure I have owned this car longer than any other car I've ever owned and have just gotten in the mood to go car shopping again.

Thanks for any interest. Email address is: lawyermgray at yahoo dot com and I'll try my best to respond promptly.

Regards,
Mike Gray

Got the Fuchs from the factory, although I seem to recall that Fuchs now has an American distributor. Size is. 7Jx17 and 9Jx17. Cost in 2013 was $2,261 Euro - about $3,000/shipped as I recall.

I've had some interest expressed in the car, but it is still for sale. I do have additional photos and service/repair records scanned and available to email to anyone who may be interested in the car.

Sharp car......... I like it.

Let's see if I can pitch some BaT comments your way.......

"If I didn't already have one"
"Sure would look great next to my Porsche Racing Red 997.1234 GTXR XXX RS"
"If I only had room for one more"
"This is a non gasket model so plan on spending a million dollars if you see a drop of oil"
"I have one of these but it's nicer then yours. I'll be watching this one with interest."
"Put some euro bumpers on it."

And scene......

Yeah, I follow BAT, too. You have a few knowledgeable folks that comment on the auctions, but a lot of the chatter is just "peanut gallery" stuff. Just don't feel like putting up with all that, but do acknowledge that some nice cars are sold there, for some pretty good prices. I'm a BMW guy too, and one of my friends in Atlanta sold a pristine euro-converted 535i, multiple show winner, for $50K a month or so ago. A record price for such an example. Knowledgeable folks, including the seller, were astounded.

That was a sharp 535i. I followed that car some on mye28.com

You ever attend the Vintage? Last year was my first time.

Dukmon:

Yep, I'm at Vintage every year - this year will be my lucky 13th! Lots of cool old BMWs and nice folks. Hope to see you there this year. What will you be driving?

I'm pretty active on the mye28 board, under the same user name. See you around!

Yeah, its a great show, Opo. What will you be driving? Hope to see you, too! I'll be in either a 1985 635CSi (white/black) or 1991 M5 (white/black). Look me up. Staying at the host hotel - Clarion.
