Default Lowering a 964 with Bilstein & HR

I am trying to understand so when i get my car i'm educated on this process , I always like a car a bit lowered. i've been reading threads for 2 days now. I absolutely positively am not interested in coil overs at all so my question is about H&R springs and Bilstein Shocks lowering method. Only for cosmetic purposes, i dont' want pss9 or koni or any of those . I asked the question in 993 forum because there was a 993 i was interested in and everyone just kept saying get coil overs (which i am not interested in) , so i did not really get a straight answer.

People keep saying Bilstein HD, and H&R springs are the combo to go with, when i search online there is no bilstein HD, are they the same as Bilstein B6? is this all i need here in this combo? (link below) Can i trouble you guys to point me to the correct part numbers if combo below isn't it. i see Bilstein B6 and B8 but then everyone says bilstein HD and i can't find those unless they are the same as B6 .

Also is that setup a bit adjustable?, i know coil overs are the adjustable but what about these? i'd like to be a little under euro RS height...will those allow this?

997 Pilot, you may have bumped into my recent thread replacing my stock suspension with B6 & HR springs. https://rennlist.com/forums/964-foru...-and-r-ls.html

The B6 unless I am corrected is HD, the HR springs are now purple not green. My car is now set at within +/- 5mm RS ROW height. Going below RS as you indicated will probably give you poor handling without further modifications, carriers etc. IMHO RS height looks and drives great. The B6 will give up to 40mm play in height. What year is your 964? The early 964 rear struts are slightly different in their mounting holes and height.

The B6 are the current versions of the HD and they are fantastic. They aren’t harsh and they do an incredible job of keeping the tires connected to the road. The H&R Sport springs are blueish/purple and they will lower the front 1.25” and the rear 1.00”.

The B6 do have adjustability although it’s not as much as a set of coil overs. I just had my car done a month ago and the difference is profound. When I had mine done I didn’t want it too low as I use my car for all types of driving and didn’t want to have issues getting into gas stations and driveways so I set it low with a goal to have the front slightly lower than the rear.

I recently added B6 and H&R springs. There is some adjustability and I used most of it to lower a little further. I was initially concerned the ride would be too harsh based on some comments, but I don't find it harsh at all. Very tight and responsive. I am very happy with the setup.

I ordered everything for my '90 from TireRack.
Great set up, this is about as low as I can go and still make it up the driveway.

Really liking the ride height on both of your cars. I am looking for moderately priced suspension upgrade that gets me to ROW height. Looks like it would be a good idea to replace top-hats.

How much adjustment on these shocks?

Any suggested suppliers for shocks and springs?

Did you replace your top hats? I am sure I am on OEM shocks right now on my car, I installed coil overs on a Miata
, but they came complete with springs and top hats. Access to the top mount looks a little tougher on the Porsche..

Yes, if your 964 is 92+ B6 & H&R springs as advertised in your link, No, if your 964 is earlier.

“Shock absorber outer tube length increased by 38mm/(1.5in)
Rear coil spring length and length of dust cover increased.”

From Adrians book

And as I discovered, upgrading the struts & springs leads to new hats, bushes, bolts & nuts (recommended), bump stop, dust covers. And while you are there...

The link you gave is for the later cars. Before you order, what year is your car?

I have not bought the car yet. There are 2 candidates i'm currently looking at a 91 & a 93 , according to elephant racing and other sites 89-90 are the early cars and starting 91 is the different suspension. So i guess since i'm not getting an 89-90 (as far as i think now since the guy with the 1990 backed out on his sale to me) then i should be ok with the ones in link above.

How do i know if i will need those extra parts you guys are talking about , hats , bushes etc?

Sorry to keep butting in but I am very interested in the topic.

What have people been using for bump-stops and top-hats and where have you found them?

997Pilot, I would wait until you have the 964 and the VIN. A 91 car could be a 90 production. My K series was registered and recorded as a ‘90, but it was manufactured in ‘89.

The extra parts I referred to you wont know until the struts are pulled out. Is this a DIY or are you outsourcing?

B6 H&R from Carnewal
OEM Front hats & gaskets, rear bump stop (cut down), dust cover from Design911
Rear top and adapter for ‘89 from Elephant Racing

You being in the USA have a lot more local choice based on service & freight costs, the latter a big factor for us NZ folk.
