Default Speakers for period correct audio refresh

Hey there - I’m looking to refresh the speakers in my ’94 C2 but maintain a period correct look, ideally reusing my existing speaker grills. What would you all recommend sourcing for quality speakers (front + back). FYI I’ve got the original Blaupunkt cassette stereo installed and it works perfectly, but speakers are obviously dried - I get audio but it sounds horrible.

Porsche Classic has replacement speakers. Pricey for what they are but they come with everything you need for a plug and play install and are an exact fit. I got them for my car because I had a gift card, they are very nice and sound great to me in conjunction with my new continental head unit. There are cheaper and/or better sounding options if you are on a budget or an audiophile.

In my former 89 Carrera which has the same sizing and locations, I replaced the blown out (well foam rotted out) speakers with a set of Kicker drop in speakers that fit behind the existing grills F/R and used the stock grills. Used the stock radio + the blaupunkt amp, on the front doors bypassing the in-door cross over and disconnected the tweeters as the kickers are 2 way. They sounded pretty good!

I think both Crutchfield and Best Buy sell these sizes. Front I think is 5 1/4 and rear 4 x 6. No mods needed. Just a little silicon to get the grills to stay in their factory mounts.

Wondering the same thing just today! Looking for an amateur audiophile suggestion as well.

I changed out my speakers on the Targa, here is a link to what I had to do to make it work. https://rennlist.com/forums/964-foru...2-targa-7.html

Great to see this thread as my next project is fitting speaker grills on the after market units!
Now that I see the suncoast kit I will try to return the aftermarket drivers.

Do any of you have a clever idea where to mount a small bass driver?
Every photos I've seen uses the rear foot well or both wells and I wouldn't be able to move the seat far enough rearward to make that doable plus it does not look very tidy.
Having it in the trunk seems to defeat the purpose other than vibrating the car. Im not looking for lots of noise but clearly defined tone. An 8" driver will do what I need it to but there isn't anywhere to mount it.
Is there room under the dash for something like this? I will investigate once Im back to the car in 3 weeks.
