Default Xzn socket sizes

I'm going to pick up a set of Xzn sockets- what sizes should I get to cover all the fasteners on the 964?

Pete

Start with a full set of metric sockets/wrenches. I've only had my 964 for 7 months but have used everything from 8mm to 24mm on it so far. The most common size I have found is 13mm.

And at least 5 extra 10mm sockets, since they seem to migrate to hidden places.

Sorry guys – just to be clear I'm not talking about regular sockets and talking about three square or Xzn sockets.

You may need a 9mm too. I needed one for the alternator shaft

If you don’t want to spring for snap on I’ve found these to be quite good. Made in Taiwan. But Taiwan tools I’ve found excellent.

The alternator shaft requires a 10mm and for the flywheel bolts a 12mm. Are there any others?

I saw your struggles! The factory tool is 10mm but the actual fluted end is slightly tapered (say ~9.3mm -- yes, I just measured it).

I don't have the factory tool, so it's a bit hit and miss I expect. 10mm is too big, 8mm too small. I am just waiting to try a 9mm. If it's no good I will probably need to get the proper factory tool. Although I may try a Allen key to see how it works.

Blue point makes stubby xzn- that's what i bought since the 10mm stubby on a 3/8 ratchet fits in the alternator shaft to remove the fan...

The newer Bosch alternators have about a 9mm fitting, while the original in my car was 10mm. I say "about" because I have multiple 9mm XZN drivers, and only half of them fit that shaft.

yeah, because once you realize what quality tools are it's hard to go cheap.... Snap On, SK, Proto, Mac, Wright, Armstrong, WIlliams Matco, etc all work great and have found their way into my tool boxes. Most of the Taiwanese stuff is good - including Gearwrench and Tekton

Sorry to hijack. Bought a new tool cart for a home box last week and it's had a cascading impact......
