Lightweight Battery?
It appears my 964 has a battery from 2002, so I'm looking to replace (and upgrade if possible). Does anyone make a lithium ion or other lightweight battery that fits without modification?
Thanks

Rennline sells an Odyssey AGM Battery that weights about 30 Lbs less than the average lead acid battery. They also sell a mount that you can use to install the battery without any modification to the car. I installed one on my Spyder and it has been working well for the past 18 months. Note that a high amperage charger may be needed from time to time if the battery loses charge. Happened once on mine.

The odyssey battery is a very good unit. I have them in all my other cars – my 1973 BMW 2002 as a PC 680 in my 19 84 24V Land Cruiser has two larger odyssey batteries in series. However you'll need to buy or make some type of bracket to hold it in if differs from the size of the original battery. Rennline also sells such a bracket- however I don't think you be saving many pounds- may be wrong about that though.
I like the fit of the stock size Bosch battery in my car. It's a very clean install and the battery itself is not so large.

Here is a link with weights for a PC925 on my car: https://rennlist.com/forums/987-981-...w-weights.html

There is some good info! Bosch 964 battery is 37lbs so you’ll be looking at 11lbs savings. But potentially at the cost of amp hours. Ratings of batteries are always tough to compare. Partially it depends on how and how often you will use the car. Winter use or just occasional summer use. I disconnect my battery between uses to preserve the charge so if really concerned with weight I might be tempted to go even smaller with the pc-680.

The Osyssey looks nice, but be sure to check out Voltphreaks as well . The pc-680 weighs just 15 lbs., but it's limited to track use only at 680 cranking amps. The Voltphreaks VPRP6 is pricey, but compelling. The VPRP6 weighs just 5.25 lbs., and puts out 940 cranking amps with a built in sleep mode. http://www.rennline.com/VoltPhreaks-...fo/EL%2DVPRP6/
Whether you go with the pc-680 or the VPRP6, Rennline also has a nice battery mount. http://www.rennline.com/Rennline-Bat...nfo/EL36%2E37/

i run an ATV battery from pepboys in my boxster. Weighs 17lbs and cranks the car over like a champ. Magna power or something like that. Cost me like $68

I went with the mid-sized Odyssey AGM Battery from rennline and also bought their mount. I'll post pictures of it installed for future reference when it arrives.

Hi guys,
I have experienced
a few different batteries,
In my opinion the best of the best is ;
The Antigravity ATX 20 with a CCA of 780
weighting 2kg,
the CCA is; as you may know the power to start the car, in this case as good as a Silver Bosch 75 amps,
as long as you fit a cutting power switch and you cut the batterie when living the car for over a day you are ansolutly find starting the car .
one more thing; lithium batteries do not like very low temperatures ...

I've got the Odyssey 925 as well. Unfortunately for me, between the parasitic draw of my climate control, and a dodgy charger I had, it's gone flat a couple of times. I've since bought a ctek charger, but I think I may still need to replace the battery one more time as it does have trouble starting once in a while. If you go with a lightweight AGM battery, I HIGHLY suggest getting a good charger from the beginning. Better than buying a $300 battery twice.

Battery technology is definitely changing fast...
Have been using this 5 lb. battery for the past year and I haven't had a single issue with it. (It doesn't get super cold here, but today was in the teen's and it jumped right to life this morning, after sitting for 4 days). The cranking numbers might look low on paper (480), but it hasn't seemed to effect the car in any way. So am I seriously under powered (and lucky that it's been reliable so far)?
5 lbs for $300 seems like the best deal ever!
