Looks like a great time Dean. Love the sheep shot! Certainly not japan. I’ve never noticed a tripometer that was digital before. Is that standard? Mine is mechanical.

Thanks guys, I'm glad you like the photos I know I love reading and seeing about other people's trips!

Pete, I was pretty sure the digital display was from 91' onwards. I could be wrong. It's quite a handy feature!

you are in new zealand yes? and you have a LHD car, imported from somewhere else, obviously, and what are the rules as far as having LHD there and i guess australia as well, i thought they were very strict as far as what side the steering wheel is...is there an age ruling or...? and it looks like a really great place to drive, especially in our favorites...

Yes in NZ, imported car from Japan. I'm not sure on the laws here I'm just glad I can have it. I'd never be able to afford a rhd, well I could but I dont think I'd enjoy the car. I know in Australia the car must be 30 years old before you can register it and drive on the road. It really is a beautiful place to drive! Once I get the car mechanically sound again I'm taking off again for another big drive

Well this has been quite a satisfying job. Still unsure if I have the confidence to adjust the valves before I put them back on. The reason for removing them is 3 of them were leaking.

Ditto on all counts!
Of all our Japan touring, Hokkaido easily beats most too.

We went touge hunting there last year, and could not believe everything from the locals, food, roads, onsen, views - it just kept going.
We will be going back... but here's a summary.

By the way, reading this thread is great Dingo as an inspiration for 964 maintenance and enthusiasm.

Are you doing the work yourself or do you have a decent mechanic?

I know exactly what you mean, I'd probably end up putting it back together so I could drive it! Whatever you do I'm excited to read about it
I just reread and realized I didn’t catch your question before. I have a awesome mechanic and he basically has given me the run of the shop for the winter. Anything I can’t do he just teaches me how to right then and there. Anything I can’t finish helll button up for me and just charge for that. All tools available and a lift. Im super lucky to have such a good (factory trained) buddy.

I want to get to NZ some day for sure! IAll the NZ guys that post make it look like driving heaven- except for the sheep- haha! I’m also into old Land Cruisers and the NZ guys look to be having a great time in some really nice spots!

If I could just figure out how to get my 964 over......

You would be 100% correct! We stayed in wanaka for the night, absolutely beautiful down there! Sad thing is I cant even claim it as my country! I'm an immigrant
