Tail light gaskets- Which to use?
My 1990 Japanese model C2 is in need of taillight replacement as the inside terminals have all corroded due to leakage. I noticed on the parts catalog there are two gaskets shown. Is there any reason to use one gasket over the other? Currently neither are fitted to my car.
Number 21 and 16.

My 1990 has all three Including #22. There should also be a foam type seal around the lamp sockets
I prefer the look of the rear end with #16 on the lens , I recall reading that they were no0t used on later cars

Peteimjp, I think you will find that the new tail light set does not require the gaskets, nor will they fit. From 91 a change to more of a vent approach. I replaced mine earlier this year, no gaskets.

I recently replaced my center and here is what I found
CENTER
- Included top gasket
- Included two side gaskets
- Did not include bottom gasket, I reused my old one but had to remove the sides
Previous owner replaced my rear corner lights recently and here is what they had:
REAR
- Included new side gasket which buts up against the fender
- no gasket around the top, bottom or inside near the center light
Just a note, the new center light had larger side gaskets than my original and filled the gap between the center and corner lights

So from what I'm gathering it seems that all the gaskets that are needed are included in the set with the lenses in the current lenses are the ones with the vents on top of being slightly different from the original MY90 units.

I’m waiting for Sunset to ship my new taillights and reflector along with the lower reflector gasket and the perimeter taillight gaskets. I’ll post pics when they get here.

It should be either #16 the full surround gasket or # 21 & # 22 for the side lights. Not all three. The early cars received the #16 gasket up till 91 IIRC. These created problems with rust. The gasket trapped dirt and water which eventually abraded the paint and slowly began to rust so they eliminated them and went with the two smaller gaskets. I have purchased new lights from Porsche some came supplied with #21& 22 and others did not.
I have both new and used #16 gaskets which are pricey if anyone in the US needs a set PM me with a reasonable offer. IIRC these are $45 each from Porsche.

Here are my new tail lights and reflector. The tail lights were manufactured about a year apart but look similar, 17.03.2017 vs 25.01.2016 and he reflector was made 5.12.2016. The tail lights are made in France and do not have the "SWF Made in Germany" on them. The tail lights have the outer end gasket on them only. The reflector has the upper gasket and the side gaskets. The center reflector also comes with all the hoses for venting. I purchased the full surround gaskets for the tail lights and the bottom gasket for the reflector. Not sure what I will use quite yet. I want to clean all the goop and dust out of the tail light pockets first.

How does the center reflector gasket attach? It is shaped like an "L" and has adhesive on one side. Does the short leg of the "L" go towards bumper or towards the engine?

Just to be clear the tail light came with gasket #21 and the center has #3 and #4. #'s 15 and 22 are required but not included. Is this correct?
The L gasket your asking about is #15?
