Default New SW chip - car does not start

Just purchased a chip from Steve Wong (911chips.com) last week. Chip is for a 964 with cat delete and primary bypass on 91 octane.

Installed it Sunday and went to start the engine. She cranks fine but no firing/starting. Put the old OEM chip back in. Started fine. Put the new chip back in, cranks but does not start.

The ECU was virgin. Cannot see any issues with my install (I have installed and removed plenty of PIC-style chips before). The pin 1 notch is oriented the same way as the original and confirmed by the pin 1 square printed on the PCB.

Negative battery terminal cable was removed prior to each disconnect.

Am I forgetting something? I emailed Steve and am awaiting his reply.

Maybe it is a bad chip but that seems unlikely to me.

Just noticed the chip says 964.91.EV.09. My car is a 90. Wonder if that is the issue?

Thanks.

In this context, “91” probably means 91 Octane.

Well, I know my chip says 110 - which is likely the 11.0:1 compression ratio as measured, and then E93 probably for 93 octane which I requested.

Heard back from Steve. He is going to send a new chip and hopefully that will fix the issue. Will update after I get it. Great service from Steve.
