Default An introduction and thanks.

Just thought it wise to introduce myself before I start peppering you all with questions (of which I have many!) Six weeks ago this fell into my hands as a part of a business deal of sorts.

MY90 with just over 100,000km. No sunroof, no rear wiper, h4, 17" Cup 1's bone stock excepting cat delete and Pss10's.

I chose this car for several reasons formost being that it is not perfect. I'm a driver not a collector. I wanted a car that was in decent enough shape to use as is but was affordable enough to leave some room in the budget for making changes. I did not want a car that was too "special" to play with. This car has been re sprayed and while it looks good enough it's far from perfect. In other words it's a great platform!

Though this is my first Porsche I've been into cars since I first started working at an indy BMW shop in Austin in the late 80's. That said this is the latest model year I've ever owned. My 1984 BJ 46 diesel Land Cruiser previously held that title. So as you can see I’m kind of old-school.
In addition to the Land Cruiser I also have a 1973 BMW 2002tii. I’ve been into the 2002’s for almost 30 years. I still have my first vehicle a 1975 BMW R90 I bought when I was 18. That said the 964 and represents a new phase in my vehicular life- one that I expect to last for a very long time.

Rennlist has been a great resource ( As well as inspiration) both before and after this purchase so for all those who continue to contribute a big thank you!

Pete

I already am! For the last week and a half it’s been my daily driver while my Land Cruiser gets a new soft top and I’m getting to know it quite well. I’ve discovered what incredible machine it is as you all already know.

Congrats Pete and welcome to Porsche! So do you already have a list of upgrades or does the car have lots of work already done?

Welcome to the 964 forum. Nice lightweight spec!
That said the 964 and represents a new phase in my vehicular life- one that I expect to last for a very long time.
I understand the feeling!

The car is been slightly upgraded with stock parts- 17 inch cup 1 7.5/9" also came with the spare set of 16 inch cup 1's. I'll probably put some Yokohama 050 on the 17 inch and put some slightly more highway friendly tires on the 16 inch rims- probably advan ado8.

Suspension bushings/clutch etc. are all original and in decent shape for the time being which is great because it gives me time to make a good plan as I use the car and see how it feels.
The rear motor mounts were shot so I replaced those with Wevo because a local mechanic had some on hand and relatively affordable because I think he had them on the shelf for quite a while. It has blue pillows but I put some black those on order and I'm gonna try those out as well. The car is to be used for travel as well as heading off to the Suzuka circuit.

Before I get carried away upgrading it I want to get to know the car better. I did order a new stereo from Tore which just arrived yesterday. I will be adding some camber adjustable tophats to the front as it is clearly necessary. The brake rotors and pads are shot so I'm going with some slotted rotors and some more aggressive pads but for now the brakes will remain stock size. In terms of getting the car back into perfectly serviceable condition my first major project will be rebuilding the suitcase- New blower motors as I'm already blowing fuse number one, expansion valve, evaporator, and dryer at a minimum. Tore has already Serviced two of the servo motors for me and those will be going in as well. For this winter it will be that and tracking down small items that need to be taken care of.Pete

Welcome! Paintwork looks great with a nice deep shine. These cars just look so right on 17" Cups with a proper ride height.

Feel free to post pics of your 2002s also - many of us here are Bimmer fans. And some of us like old LCs too

This is the 2002 right after I finished restoring it :

and then after I moved to Japan :

it has a shortened front struts Bilsteins specially valved, vented front rotors, adjustable coil overs, fat sway bars ,stock tii engine in excellent health 40% LSD in the rear, dogleg Close ratio five speed from an euro 323 , close ratio steering box , etc

Land Cruiser is an 84 BJ 46. Is the mid length model last year they were produced then they went to the 70 series. It has factory cable operated dif locks, PTO winch up front with some fancy rope, Michelin 8.25 R16 tires with internal beadlocks and my favorite mod- an Espar coolant heater with a 7 day timer. Every morning when I come out to get the truck it's already warm.

That is a SWEET Cruiser, sir. Well done!

I was a little confused by your C2: In the USA version, that steering wheel would have been on a '79 C4. So, it confused me a little. Until I saw Japanese plates. Things are different around the world!
And, oh, to have your sun-roofless top:
