How does a 964 compare to a Ferrari...?
So, was lucky enough to be able to drive a Ferrari 355 a week ago. I absolutely loved it. Love my 964 too and I know it's not really a direct comparison but interesting all the same..
Made a video of my impressions, hope you like it!

Great review. I've always loved the F355, but good lord the upkeep costs scare me. Maybe some day, but definitely not anytime soon.

I have a 458 and a 964
no comparison, not to mention maintenance on modern ferraris has come way down.
Ive also owned a 308, 348, 355, 360 and a stradale challenge.
Porsche and Ferrari are totally different cars.
AWESOME video by the way!
One of each is the way to go.

Nice video. I’ve had each generation of air-cooled Porsches and my favorites are the early 911S and the 964s. I’ve also owned Ferraris and currently own a 355 Challenge car. Owning both is the answer. The closest thing to the engine delivery characteristics of a 355 is a proper 911S engine (or perhaps a 9K rpm GT3, but I have not experience those). I miss my 911S track car and would look to have one again at some point; having said this, it would be an addition not a replacement to my 355 Ch.
In terms of the 355 and a 964, no comparison. My 355 is like an intense cup of espresso, while the 964 is a semi-dry cappuccino. Still good, but not as packed with sensory overload and therefore enjoyable to drink all morning.

Porsche
Porsche is the only "performance" car I have ever wanted. I can remember way back in HS guys talking about Ferrari vs Lamborghini vs Maserati vs Porsche etc.....
I always said I would rather have the Porsche. They would list all sorts of reasons why some other brand was faster or quicker or better but it never mattered to me. I just like Porsches.
I don't deny that those other brands are special, they have just never done anything for me.

I've been a Ferrari guy most my life. Bought my first Porsche only last year (964C2). Now, I look at myself in the mirror and wonder what took me so long! Love driving the Porsche every chance I get. Also, just had a go with a GT3RS on the track....no Ferrari I have ever driven could keep up with that epic machine.

Having run around a track in both a RUF turbo and a 430 Challenge car, the difference is glaring: the RUF was all over the place and fun. The Challenge was hugging the ground and almost boring. That being said, slow and smooth wins the race... and it sure was faster...

Great video Jack.
If the 355 was the Ferrari turning point it suggests then excellent. Ticks all the boxes. But to live with it as your only indulgence..?
Lucky enough in the past to have had short ownership of a 308 GT4 then a 308 GTB and a Lamborghini Jalpa. Loved them all and they certainly had prescence and draw.
However, each one in a small way did my head in. Non were garage queens and were used hard and driven longs miles in UK and EU. From minor rubbish seat adjustment ability, flimsy dash/console binnacles and every so often the need to tap a gauge or two to check the needles were still alive, it wasn't always hassle free. Parts were not cheap for sure.
Still loved them, but on long drives the stress in the back of my mind, waiting for something to find that needs sorting or was just plain lack of quality control, was always there.
The 964 turned me completely. As an engineer I could see, feel and drive imediately the difference. For virtually the same engine power it just felt so much more confident, capable, robust and well engineered - something day in day out that was meant to be driven hard.
964 or another Ferrari? One or the other? A no brainer for me... Would have the 308GTB again or a 355 GTB at the drop of a hat, but not as a replacement.
We missed each other a while back while I was in Balham and we meant to hook up. Now in Bucks/Beds making good use of the sweeping country B roads.

I agree the 355 is not a replacement for any Porsche.. but I just want one very badly!!

A bloody great video! Very enjoyable to watch and to hear those engines, especially as I was wearing earphones at the time! You are so very enthusiastic about the cars you are driving and so good as describing the feeling you get, it felt as though I was sitting next to you in the passenger seat. Love the sound of the 355 engine, but could never have one for the reasons you gave. Had my 964 C4 for nearly 12 years and it’s the best thing I ever did, plus it’s appreciated in value! Looking forward to the next vid soon I hope!!
