Default Brake lights sticking on

Hey,

My brake lights have been sticking on the last few weeks, when you pull the pedal back, this usually turns them off. So I thought that the pedal was just not returning to its fully upright position. So I've just replaced the spring and the lights are still stuck on!

I am now a bit lost, thinking of replacing the switch now on the pedal, but not sure thats the problem as it does go out when you play with the pedal?

Any ideas Rennlisters?

Thanks,

Chris

Sounds just like the sticky switch I had a couple years ago.

Yeah, I agree, sounds like a sticky brake light switch. They are cheap to replace - I found it a bit finicky to replace and have it set properly. Mine was doing the opposite at one point - it wasn't going on all of the time - I ordered a new one and replaced it, but in the meantime, I had fixed the old one by taking it apart - found the little button was getting stuck - I sanded the edges a bit to help it move better.
I didn't need to remove the pedal cluster - only the plate behind it.

I'll try the switch next then. The switch is depressed slightly though when the pedal is in the normal (off) position. So looks as though the switch works, but suppose could be sticking within the switch causing the lights to stay on

Best way to tell is the have someone at the back while
To toggle the switch. (I did it in the garage with door closed so I could see if lights on/off).

I can see the reflection in the window at the back of my garage if the lights are on or not. The part of the switch which contacts the pedal seems to move okay. Just as if the pedal doesn't depress it enough to turn the lights off

Might be worth giving it a good blast with contact cleaner first.

I added a bolt to the tab on the pedal to allow more adjustment, drill a hole and used a small rivnut in the tab. This allows pedal height full adjustment using the brake rod. You can then match the throttle and brake height.
