Default Back in the air cooled family!

I ended a long hiatus by picking up a 1990 C2 this week. I had been looking for awhile and am pleased with the car we found.

It has 45k miles. The engine has not been sealed but the leaks aren't bad (yet). After five days at home, no drops yet although I've driven the car every day. The clutch and flywheel were replaced and the AC was converted to R134a at around 35k miles. H&R greens are installed on the original shocks but other than that, the car is completely stock.

Last night, I replaced the center muffler with a bypass pipe and this afternoon I drilled ten 1" holes on the air filter cover.

Wow, I really missed the air cooled sound!

Car drives very well but with a slight pull to the left under heavy braking. Engine is strong and gearbox is tight.

I cleaned out the frunk today and am pretty happy with the condition of everything. Took out the battery and added some distilled water tonight and out it on my charger for reconditioning.

Pics below. Kudos to the first person that can see what I found wrong in the frunk picture.

The only issues I have so far include the rear spoiler extending but not retracting automatically (the manual control switch works fine extending AND retracting), the drivers seat front height adjustment button is only sporadically working and the slight pulling to the left.

I dumped a bottle of Techron in on Wednesday along with a fresh tank of gas and will change the oil when I run this tank empty.

Are the tops of both front struts supposed to be towards the driver side?

Ding ding! I am pretty sure they are supposed to be mirror images of each other. E.g. Both on the inside or both on the outside.

As a result, my passenger side front wheel has a bit more camber than the drivers side and I'm sure it's not setup well side to side. I'll have to rotate one of them and take it in for an alignment.

Congratulations, what a beauty. It looks to be in excellent condition!

The only thing that I couldn't really see in the picture is the cover that goes over the cables that cross from front to back on the right side. But the picture made that area hard to see.

Spyder and 964 makes for an awesome combo!

Your left hand one (drivers side in the US) is the incorrectly oriented one. They should both point to the inside of the frunk. It's very easy to reorient the top mount, but it will almost certainly require an alignment on that side.

Yeah, sorry - I took all the stuff out of the trunk so that I could clean in there. I took the cable cover out too.

Yep, the Spyder is great. We're lucky to have both. The GT4 is now sitting in the other garage - haven't driven that since getting the C2!

Congrats on the pickup? Did you happen to buy this car close to Chicago?

Good eye to the person who spotted the flipped top mount.

Makes you wonder what kind of n00bs previously wrenched on that car.

Roger that, Steve! It's got the vent kit installed already.

And since the flywheel and clutch were replaced already, I think all of the potential gotchas are taken care of until I decide to reseal, right?

Congrats on the pickup! Always a smart idea to have an air cooled around...
