Grrrrr !!! (And wing mirror)
Due to what was probably a group of drunken ba$tard$ walking down the street kicking off people's mirrors I am now short of a drivers wing mirror. One of the two fixings at the top of the base plate has snapped off and when I returned to the car the mirror was simply hanging by its wires.
When I come to reconnect the new mirror how easy is it to get to the wires and reconnect them? Do I need to remove the interior door panel or is it a quick and easy job to do?
Thanks,

Jim,
sorry to hear that.. vandalism really sucks!!
My 964 had had its wing mirrors stolen at one point (with a PO) and the receipts for the work showed that they had indeed removed the door card to access the wiring.

Taking off the interior door panel is really easy - if you want a step-by-step let me know and I'll post it. It takes about 5 minutes and it doesn't destroy anything in the process.
Sorry to hear of the vandalism. That sucks. I had someone break into my 65 911 and take the aftermarket steering wheel. The steering wheel was $250 from performance products, but the damn vent window took 1 year to find a replacement!

By the way, there is a guide on how to remove a door panel on the p-car.com website. Its for a 993 but I think should also work for 964s.
Look at:

Mirrors
Jim,
To the best of my knowledge you do not have to remove the door panel to fix your mirror. That is if the plug is still intact under the mirror base. When you get a replacement just plug it in and your all set to see to the rear.

Jaybro

As a Follow up to my last post. The Porsche wire diagrams do not show the plug until MY 1992. I guess you just must pull off the mirror and check it out.

John
After a short period my brain begins to hit on all six cylinders. When I replaced my flag mirrors ( which have no plugs) with the teardrop version (which have plugs) I just pulled the wires up thru the hole under the base and added a plug on that end. My apologies for confuzing the dissusion.

I'm pretty sure Phil's car didn't have plugs, either.

Thanks everyone for their responses.
One of the two 'pegs' at the base has been snapped off and a friend is currently trying to drill and fix a new one into position to see if that will hold. it is never going to be as solid as before but if it's strong enough it saves me the cost of a wing mirror for the moment.
Does anyone know if the base plate has a rubber seal around it as if there was one there I couldn't see it on the pavement anywhere.
Thanks again.
