Well it looks like Singer will be going thru a lot of 964s.

It is really a shame.

I have a 964 and I do not like what Singer is doing.

Why don't they cut up another Porsche model and create an abomination out of those tubs.

I know I am the only one on here that is not swooning over the Singer.

IMHO my original 964 is better than the crap Singer is making because mine will stand the test of time.

Outside of some special versions like the RS AMERICA, there are many many 964’s available.. which get trashed or modified or left to rot. If you see the donor vehicles which Singer uses, most require almost complete ground-up restorations.. they are literally shells in bad state of disrepair.. the outside of their shop looks like a junk yard (probably intentional come to think of it)... this is not a disservice to anyone considering they’ve made what... 200 cars total so far??

Now.. if you’re talking eagle with the e-type, I could maybe maybe see your point.. but even those were made in the 1000’s. They’re not exactly repainting Over the Mona Lisa.. they’re taking the worst 964 shells and making them into art.. it’s all good.

singer isn’t just scooping up trashed cars. Not even 20 posts ago were examples of driver quality cars being bought up to convert into singers.

I personally couldn’t care less. Mines heavily modified. Add me to the list of people destroying 964s. Given the budget, I’d want all the singer running gear in a 964 shell.

If you consider 5000 + US spec 964 coupes (that is all C2/C4 both tip and manual) a lot then I guess you're right but there are probably less than 2000 left in the US in good condition. No doubt the ROW 964's will be chopped up soon enough. . In many ways it is a compliment that the 964 was chosen to be the foundation of the singer. When you think about it a messaged 964 is being acclaimed as one of the best 911's ever. They could have chosen the 993 or the 3.2 carrera. There were more of these made than the 964 by a large margin and the 993 lovers consider the 993 to be the best air-cooled 911. It makes one think.

I believe Singer requires you send a car to them ie 2 have left my area on the big journey into a container ... it maybe so import is just 're-import' and hence easier (we are RHD for example)

Do you have any thoughts on why Singer did not go with a 993 as the base?

Maybe because they are so much more expensive than the 964?

Or is there a mechanical reason?

^^^^^^^
I've watched a couple videos and also read where Rob states that he likes the driving dynamic of the 964's rear suspension. They started with a G-body, then quickly switched the the 964's shell.

That's the correct reason why.

That is different than what I have read about the 993 vs. 964 rear suspension in most other comparison treads on here and other forums.

Most extrude the superiority of the 993's new multi-link rear suspension.

Good to see that Singer is going against the tide and prefers the 964 suspension.

Sorry to sound like the typical 964 owner that has been exposed to 10 years of discussions as to why the 993 is so vastly superior.

I think it's not about which one is "better" but about which of the 2 feels more like a 911S/T from back in the days when driven hard. And the 964 is the answer. And I agree.

+964

Looks aside, it is amazing how similar the two cars are; yet how different they feel. More important than the looks it was the trailing arm feel coupled with coil overs that sold me on the 964 and I could not give up for a 993.

Singers weren't as expensive when the program began. It was a glitzy modified 964 ( after his initial backdated car)...

At this point, with how far they've come, and with the development they are doing, they really should be using 993 shells. So much of the car is changed that they could make a 993 look like a Volvo wagon , let alone a 70s looking 911....at that price.

Hate to say it , i like what they've accomplished. But they need to make a better car, and stop wrecking 964s.

Singer needs to step up, like Ruf did!
