Quick fix for falling foam

While I had my airbox off to do the shocks I made a quick and easy fix to the foam falling from above the engine. From what I understand it takes a engine drop to replace this. Mine was ok except at the front edge so I bought a piece of 1 1/2" x 1/8" aluminum bar at Home Depot for about $8. I cut it to about 30" long but this can vary. I bent it to approximatly the curvature of the mounting area. Use something round like a pipe and you will get a better bend. I lined it up and marked the hole locations and drilled the bar about 1/2" in with a 1/4" drill bit. I elongated the holes to get a better fit. I will probably take it off and paint it flat black and nobody would know it wasnt suppose to even be there. Easy 30 minute fix until and engine drop.

What a great idea. My tatty foam has bugged me since the day I got the car. Excellent!

Definitely a good idea. My foam is starting to do the same thing and it sucks! I wanted to just rip it all out the other day as I looked at it, but I managed to control myself. Maybe I'll try this idea instead. :)

Great idea, Jim. This is going to the DIY forum.

I just tore all of mine out - It cleaned it up a lot and I don't have to deal with all that black dust anymore. I'll get a new one in there when I drop the engine.
