Default Fog Light replacement DIY (964)

I had to replace a shattered foglight and learned some things in the process.

The foglight unit has two studs/bolts protruding from the back, which extend through the bumper fascia and secure the foglight with nuts on the back side of the fascia. Problem is, those nuts appear virtually impossible to get at without removing the oil cooler assembly.

Solution:

instead of removing the studs (and the attached foglight) from the car, remove the foglight from the studs and leave the studs in place (fastened to the car). This way, everything can be done easily from the front. Key is that the foglight has two halves: remove the two screws at the front (lens side) of the light that hold the halves together (there is a third screw but it adjusts the aim of the light), then remove the nuts on the inside of the second (back) half of foglight that secure the foglight to the studs.

In detail:
1. unscrew the transparent plastic keeper and the black plastic bumper on either side of the foglight,
2. unscrew the foglight halves and remove the front half (or let it dangle by the wires to the bulb),
3. remove the nuts holding the rear foglight half to the studs,
4. remove the rear foglight half,
5. unclip the electrical plug from the back of the rear foglight half,
6. separate the halves of the replacement foglight,
7. remove (discard) the studs from the rear half of the replacement foglight,
8. clip the electrical plug to the back of the rear half of the replacement foglight,
9. fasten the rear half of the replacement foglight to the old studs,
10. fasten the front half to the back half,
11. replace the transparent plastic keeper and the black plastic bumper.
