Default 85/86 exhaust manifold and Y-pipe on 83 928S

Hi - this probably qualifies as my first real "performance" upgrade. Lots of minor maintenance fixes with newer stuff etc., but this should net me a few HPs as well.

So needless to say, I am excited to see how it turns out. There are not a whole lot of options for 16v engines other than a new SC. Do not want to go that route really right now anyway. I really like the way it is performing now, so this last piece should make it really fun to drive.

I am putting a link to my friend's Web site on 911's and 928's (mine) where he has a blog he is doing just for this job, step by step with pictures. We have full permission to link to his site and blog, no problem. After his tussle with the new manifolds today, he said he wants to help anyone trying to do this, to help them on a few of the PITA parts. He does the jobs I do not want to tackle or have the expertise or tools for, and in this case, also can weld and do some fabrication and sand blasting. We are also putting on a new Y-pipe (custom, w/ added 2 inch section because of the new manifolds - Thanks Roger!) and new hi-perf cat.

I should have it back by Tuesday, and I am leaving for SITM on Friday...just in time! Should be awesome.

I went for the full monte....... headers and 3" all the way back.

not shown is a 5" round magnaflow I added to the back, the single muffler was too loud.

good luck on the project. I have never had my 84 dyno'ed so no idea what HP this added. according to threads I read, maybe 15hp. does feel stronger, and sounds faster than it is....

Wow - you could suck a tornado through those!!! HA Great Pics. I thought about making the single exhaust a dual as well, but I like the idea of keeping the rear part and muffler pumpkin stock for now. Might upgrade that later.

I see you have the same jacks...but you might consider getting the Lift Bars from Ken, if you regularly go under the chassis. They are great. You will need a racing jack though to go low enough to get under the bars to lift the car.

Let's see a Dyno Shootout™!

My bet is that the '85 "shorty" headers give as much power as the full headers. The sound will be different.

I've got '85 manifolds tapped into the stock Euro dual exhaust. It has a really sweet high performance sound that is more like ripping and less like thundering. Didn't do a distinct before/after dyno test but figure 10 to 15 horsepower.
