Default Finally some dyno results from my custom K26-8 billet compressor

I finally got some dyno time with my custom billet compressor K26 last week. The dyno is a mustang, and has the reputation of being a bit of a heart breaker for numbers. I'm attaching two sheets, one by itself and one comparing it to a similar setup Super 61. This thing annihilates the super 61 at same / similar boost. This is a small town dyno shop, and it seems like they always have trouble with their MAP sensor, so you'll have to watch the video to correlate the boost curve to the graph. (sorry, I know it's jenky, but the place is about 5 miles from my house and charges me about $60 per session)

The pull doesn't actually start in the video until the boost gauge snaps up to 0

Complete mod list:
Old school rogue M-tune with 80# injectors
3" down pipe and full 3" exhaust
Tial waste gate

Everything else is box stock

nice!! that must be a fun car to drive. midrange would be insane. Looks like the turbo is out of breath though, but damn good upgrade.

damn!
those are meaty numbers.
i wonder how it'd look if you tried starting the run earlier (mash it at 1500... )

its got +/- 300whp for a 2500rpm window...like a rally car LOL

Agreed. Full torque well before 4000rpm. Great street car. It would be interesting to see the hp level with a slightly bigger compressor housing on there, with peak torque like that. Next year's project?...

I think I'm going to find that the turbo will still to a little more power... I think a big part of the falling torque is the stock head and intercooler, but there's no way to prove either way until I do more testing.

lart, I disagree. .. the torque number is representative of a 20 psi run, but it's down under 19 by 5500, this is certainly not a a 20psi hp number. This dyno is particularly nasty for giving low numbers, which is why I posted the super 61 numbers for reference.

the mid range torque is mind boggling. . It goes through 3rd and 4 th gear effortlessly.

Grushy,
A rennlister did all the work on the turbo. Hand ported #8 hot side, selected a compressor, and machined out the opening in the compressor housing to accept the bigger wheel. For the moment it's the only one of its kind, but he's working on a batch of them.

I wonder how this would do with a K27 compressor? Is the K26 inlet enlarged?

That's the one.... It's basically exceeded all my expectations from when I bought it. I need the fat mid range because this car is used for autocross. This turbo probably got me 500 rpm of spool compared to my other options on the table. And, in my case 500 rpm of spool is the difference between needing an S2 gear box, and keeping the turbo ratios....and that's especially good since I need a 70mph second gear.

Good numbers. For comparison this is also from Mustang Dyno. Stock engine - slightly modified k26/6 turbo, 3 inch DP and exhaust, Tial WG, VEMS, 630cc Siemens DEKA injectors, 16.5psi from 3k to 5.2k rpm. After that there was no reason to keep the boost at the same level as it did not result in higher HP due to bach preassure. The car was tuned for +2 hours, thus was heat soaked in the end and I still have OEM air box.

Smudo, For a second I didn't catch that your torque was in N*m..... I was going to have a lot of questions.... I wouldn't be afraid to push your mid range boost up to 18psi, you should see torque go up almost 20%, and with AFR and ignition timing you should't have any trouble making it live. We did some dyno work on this car with the stock turbo, and got 300 ft lbs at 18psi, but the stock wastegate wasn't doing a good job up high. Peak wheel hp was something low like 235.

I drive this car also to track days where you have WOT for extended periods of time, thus it was tuned conservatively. The good thing with such a small turbo is really quick spool of the turbo and full boost from 3k rmp in the 2nd and 3rd gears. I changed to Bosch injectors (for smoother idle and low rpm range) and slightly modified the IC, thus will retune it next week but as I have a good base tune, I will do it on a road, to have more realistic environment.

That batch will go like hot cakes!

This thread is making me reconsider my NA build plan

Awesome, thanks for sharing!

Who built the turbo?

Thanks,
Chris
