Default In praise of VEMS

I recently started using Ultra 94 (Petro Canada product up here) gas, switching from the usual Shell 91 octane variety. After a couple tanks, I noticed a slight difference in the length of time cranking before start and the initial idle was low, almost to the point of stalling when warm.

The experience and ease of adjusting the cranking enrichment and post start idle characteristics with VEMS is so easy; even for a non-software person like myself its great. Being able to autotune using the software by driving around is not mentioned enough and now I have a config saved for the 91 and one for the 94.

For those considering stand alone, VEMS has been great and clearly, I would recommend it. Thanks Peep.

(unpaid endorsement over)

I'm not to sure... maybe if you were to perseade me, such as sending me your Vems ECU to check out the differences. I promise the post office will lose it so insure it as much as possible.

I'm really excited about going to vems once my 944 is in much nicer condition. To me it seems far better and more elegant than a piggyback maf setup.

I think the other ECU's out there clearly have their place (piggy back or otherwise) and alternatively, I might have run one instead if I didn't know about the VEMS auto tune. We're pretty lucky that cars as old as these are are still seeing development and support of products.

The only thing that would totally impress me with the VEMS would be a replacement wire harness.
Several reasons why i don't like the MAF\PB motronic packages. it patches on potentially 30 years old broken parts, DME&KLR+ sensors\harness. I could buy one of those new ecus but i have invested enough money into the motronic setup all ready.
I want to be able to change too whatever sensor, not needing to buy a $$$ bosch sensor . If i change injectors i dont want to send my chip back etc.
I have started a wire harness rebuild now and when i am done i am going for a vems ecu as well .

you can get a brand new harness made by 928 motorsports for ~$600.

that is interesting that it's not on there anymore.
they've been doing it for several years now and even advertised it in the 944 section.

here was the original thread on it...Carl is a stand-up guy and they just re-vamped their 928 harness offering so i'm sure if you ask for it, they'll build you one.

At this time, we have been stopped by
1) lack of availability to all the connectors we need, and
2) a good unmolested 951 harness to work from as a model.

So all we can offer is to make the 944 NA harnesses, which we do.
Here:

This post was from 2014 and if they were making a turbo harness now i think i would know as this is a big deal these days.

They actually had a page on their website up until a few weeks ago when I last checked advertising the 944 harness rebuild service.

I swear I'm not making it up...

I think this is the repair service for wiring harnesses that you are thinking of:

https://928motorsports.com/parts/inj...ng_harness.php

It is a repair/rebuild service. You have to send your harness in and we will rebuild it.
We are no longer able to make new harnesses because some of the connectors are no longer available.

We stock a great many German lugs, wire ends, and connectors and can rebuild your harness as far as we can with what we have.

With any standalone, you can just make a wiring harness yourself, with the correct terminals for your sensor lineup and a matching plug for the ECU. Everything will be the right length and brand new. I believe VEMS has a universal flying lead harness you can buy and terminate, that's what I did for my Megasquirt install on my '83. No bothering with original electronics and connectors.
