K27/6 vs K27/8
What type of performance differences are there between these two turbos? I'm planning on upgrading to a K27 pretty soon, but I'm not clear on which to use. If I understand correctly the K27/8 will be a bit more powerful at the cost of spool up time? Also my car has the K26/8 turbo on it from the factory, will a K27/8 be an easier install because th ehotsides are the same?

this is much debated.
some say that the power isn't worth the lag.
others say there isn't a diff. in lag.
and yet others say the bigger hotside is much more powerful.
It really comes down to your specific application (free flow exhaust would kill that lag, along with a MAF)
I know this doesn't really help much!
PS. I have a 27/6, I build 18 PSI in right about 2 seconds (going off of my elec. boost controller, and senses) (this is with a stock exhaust except an Ansa muffler and a crushed down pipe) but I have tons of other mods.
so lag wouldn't be a factor for me and I would purchase the bigger hotside
good luck!

I had the K-27 #6, the difference I feel is that the K-27-6 gives you quicker spool up and a descent top end. While the K-27-8 takes a second longer to spool up but your mid range on up is aggressively faster with a higher top end. I don't care to much for 0-60 times but rather have higher mid to top end speeds. Reno

Call Majestic or any number of turbo places, I think I was quoted like 550-650 to convert the stock K26/6. I happen to have a K26/6 if you would like to buy one to have an extra.

It costs 795.00 to change either model such as K-26-6 to a K-27-6 or K-26-8 to a K-27-8. The problem is you must have the larger hot side in order to convert. Your other problem is mating the #8 housing to your #6, you would need some custom work done. Reno

You can convert for much for $550-$650 all day long, and you don't have to have the -8 hot side either. You can just as easily do it to the -6 hot side.

The K26-8 has a lot more lag than a K26-6.
That said, and the FACT that the turbine side of the turbo determines when the turbo spools up, you take to the bank that the K27/6 will have the exact same difference in lag compared to the K27/8 that the K26/6 has to the K26/8.
I've dynoed them both, and the dyno results showed exactly that.

I received this reply from Fred Lozo at Power Technologies when I inquired about upgrading my K26/6 to a K27/6: "your cost - $560.00, includes remanufacture of current operating system of the turbo, upgrade of compressor configuration to a k27/6.
