Update:

Last week a huge box arrived at my shop. It included some fiberglass items.
Slowly making them fit and bolting them on. Still plenty of sanding to be done, i waited until these arrived so i could start cutting before i sand spots i don't need to sand ect.

For the keen eye, They are Broadfoot 944 GT2 flares.
One side is mounted, more or less to see what modifications need to be done ect before i get to stuck into the body work. the other side will get mounted later once i'm happy with the first side.

Because the car is sanded back and is in 6 different colours from the undercoat ect. the photo is in black and white to get the attention away from sanding.
So here's the teaser shot.

I got the front mounted after some toying around.

A front angle photo doesn't show much as the bumper is off ect. so another rear end shot.

Hi Paulyy, long time no see (this is my first log in to rennlist for quite some time). I see that you have a fresh project going. Good luck!

Good to see you're still around!, Yeah more of a serious track car, starting from ground up so looking at a longer term project. Your old girl is still running strong

I'm really glad to hear that she's still going strong and also that she's been enthusiastically worked on for the last 7 years or so.

It looks like I will be breathing life back into my 951 for some track time in Sydney after leaving her idle for so long. I suspect I have a lot of catching up to do in the 944 world.

I'm quite interested in this myself..
I think I've only really ever heard of bottom ends going from too much RPMs and/or loosing big end bolts..

The rods are very heavy and have huge bearings, as does the forged crank.. Yep forged. But that does not lend itself well to running those very heavy rods at extreme speed, I think they run into more problems trying to throw around their own weight than they do from applied torque..

What I'm trying to decide on now is what sort of piston I want to use, with the 931 head though.. How bad the OEM pistons really are and if the dished piston design is inhearently weak but to go with basic flat top pistons looses the benefit of quench.. Don't know..

I hope I can learn something from whatever you discover in your 2.0 performance adventure..

Around here 2.0 NA long blocks are just a couple hundred bucks, it's a shame people are so afraid to blow a few of em up for good data..

It's been proven many many times that 924 pistons and rods can easily withstand 7k rpm for prolonged use. But higher than that it will spell trouble.

And 924 NA pistons (and rings) are stronger than 931 ones. If you want to try out the 924 block strength then use Euro 924 bottom end + 931 head, that will give you around 8:1 CR and plenty of headroom for boost.

If i go a head with the 2L, i'll use aftermarket rods and pistons. Will be stronger and lighter than factory.

Time for an update (i had thought i use photobucket to upload photos, but i guess i had't)

I have started to build the roll cage, Seat mounts and pedal mounts.
Roll cage is a 6 point to CAMS (Australia) spec. (not finished yet, few more bars to be made and just tacked into place)
I have discovered the factory seat mounts in the 924 are different than the 944t and it looks like i can mount it lower. We made a custom bracket for both drivers and passenger side and cut out the old mount.
The pedals will be lifted off the ground and also adjustable 80mm movement to allow different driver if need be. I wanted to finish the pedal mounts tonight but it was bloody cold 10°c so i called it a night early.

Pauly, now is the time to seriously upgrade from those super weak 924 seat mounts. Don't you think?

Beautiful fabrication on the fuel rail BTW!
