Timing Belt, Balancing belt, water pump
Does anyone know how much money the 30,000 mile balancing shaft belt, timing belt, water pump, thermostat and rollers replacement on an 87 944 turbo would be?

I do belts/pump for $900 including parts but my rates are about half what a shop charges.
So figure $1500 on the low end to say $2000 high end depending on the brand of pump your shop uses.

Rollers are/should be standard included with the timing belt/balance belt job.
If your shop says they don't need to change the rollers, you don't need to use that shop.
And I wouldn't charge any extra to do the front engine oil seals if already doing water pump.

Since the belts are so friggin cheap and easy to change, I'm closer to 20k interval and using judgement on roller changes.

I have les than 30k miles on current belt. How old can the belt be?
I took a look at the belt and they look like new with no cracks. The belt does look glossy which I heard is a sign of wear. There is no leak or any oil to be found.

Belts and rollers every 3 years/30k miles.
Water pump every 2 or 3 belt changes per your judgment.
I've done about a million 944 belt jobs and have never encountered a set of rollers good enough to re-use, even on very meticulously maintained cars.
3 years/30k is about the useful life for those little bearings - they get crunchy and wobbly fast.

That's a pretty big generalization. If he's doing a timing belt every 30k miles as he calls it a 30k service, there's a really good chance the rollers are ok for two belts. And certainly a water pump every 30k is outrageously overkill.

400 - 450 no major seals b/s orings, races or pump, just belts and rollers.
add water pump and all seals races and oil pump drive gear low end is 900 and upwards of 1400 depending on what breaks .. lol
Please note that "LOW END" refers to V2rocket or myself .. as in about half the cost of labor for factory quality

I am considering taking the car to a Porsche dealership to get the work done. Is this a bad idea. When I mentioned it to a service rep they said they would need the car for a couple of weeks in order to do the job?
Do you think the car is too old for them to work on. ie: no paperwork or manuals to doing the job?
The car was at idle in a parking lot. Then I heard a screeching noise. Then I saw coolant leaking from the right side of the car. I believe it's the water pump screeching and I am going to get the following replaced.
Water Pump
Timing belt
Rollers
Balancing Shaft Belt
Thermostat

Timing/balance belt and water pump job is a 6-8 hour job, tops.
If they need several weeks they are probably trying to find 30 year old instructions on how to do it, and you will be paying $2000+ for the service.
You should be able to find a competent independent shop or friendly Rennlist DIYer to help you out locally.

My dealer refers to Indy shops for my 944. I am sure they don't see many classic Porsches.
Dealers also use Porsche genuine parts. You can save half the parts cost going OEM parts that are suppliers for Porsche. Many times, good aftermarket parts aren't inferior quality either.
