Default 1990 944 turbo - suspension

Hi guys,

Looking to change or upgrade suspension on the car, I would like a good suspension for spirited street drive and some track incursions, 6 times a year maybe, so what do you suggest, being "bolt on", I don't want to have to change anything like the struts...

Any ideas?

Thanks guys

If you're not willing to change the struts or any other components involving similar work/$/effort, you're going to be extremely limited. I'll assume that means not changing springs, torsion bars, control arm bushings, etc. You're left with the following:
1) sway bars (and all associated bushings) - not too difficult. Great results.
2) Wheels/tires - expensive, but also great results
3) Check ball joints for tightness, and the pins for any bending or cracks
I would almost include spherical bearing caster blocks as well because they make such a surprising difference, but I wouldn't bother doing those unless you're willing to also replace the front bushings of the front a-arms with spherical bearings as well. Knowing how terrible of a job that is, I'd say you have to cross that off your list.

Shocks & Struts are job one and not that difficult. I'd do Koni Yellows front and rear and 968 M030 Sway Bars.

Agreed, if you are not replacing the struts you won't get a lot. IF your car is M030 or koni equipped already (m474) you can send them to koni for a rebuild and i would recommend doing so.

Go all in and get KW V3s, they're great. 968 M030 sways are my next step, but just the KWs do wonders.

No, you would need to do the hacksaw install like everyone else does. Its not hard, but it is harder than just bolting in a new set.

Thanks you all guys!! Great help!!

Tims944 I'm in Europe, so it would take a long time to get the items here and than I would have to pay taxes. Sorry.

NCLA951, So, are kWs a bolt on, or do we have to do any changes?

Jason, thanks! Gret DIY! At this stage I'm avoiding any DIY! Is there anybody selling the transformed struts?
Thanks

They are bolt in yes, but in the rear you would have to reindex your torsion bars to work with the KW helper springs, and then have it corner balanced and aligned. But they work great.

Not every car needs to be re-indexed. Mine was still well within KW's ride height recommendation after taking the weight of the car on the helper springs.
