How did yours bend? I'm just in the process of ordering new ones and looking if its worth getting SS for exhaust too.
I hope the gen2 makes a difference. I'm surprised you didn't go EFR like Rod and Patrick.
I'll be heading that way also on my race motor. Still weighing up on if i should still use the 2L or just get a 944 block. 2.5 or even 3L.

If you look at a race car from a holistic point of view you wouldn't be surprised at all. There will always be limited time and money available to put into a race car and the ultimate ROI is to make it quicker around the race track. So every choice you make have to strive against this goal or towards making it more reliable.
I've been successfully running 770 hp for a few seasons now. Not sure of any other 944/968 based engine running this power level for a prolonged amount of time. Comparing to WTAC is very different as it is just a single event per year whereas we run a full season.
A Gen 2 turbo gives us another 100 hp headroom without any new custom work. All respect to Patrick but if lap time is the ultimate goal I would probably spend resources a bit different.
As you know we spend a lot of time working on aero and suspension. Which at this point gives a better ROI then adding say 50 hp more. The EFR 9180 is not as big in terms of flow as one might think on these engines. The max flow is very high up in the compressor map so it's more suited for a smaller displacement high boost scenario. Not saying it's a bad choice but it's difficult to make use of the 1000 hp capabilities on a 3.x engine.
I take pride in having done the right choices to build a record setting machine. You have to balance the buckets and not overspend in a single area. That is IMHO the key

You could well be right. ROI are the 3 most important letters when you get to these levels. I had no idea quite how time consuming switching to a T/S turbo would be. Would have been a lot easier to go with the same turbo you have chosen by 100%. For us the decision was based on Rod's positive experience with T/S turbos (Garrett & BW), wanting to give this motor the best chance to shine and that we'd never really competed with more than about 450whp. While 50bhp would make little difference. Perhaps 200whp might. :-)

You're correct the 9180 is a bit more suited to the smaller displacement motors, but it makes up for that under the curve and it's super responsive, and realistically it makes as much power as the block can handle. But we all make our own decisions.

Yes definitely. The 9180 has proved itself in all types of engine combo's. If I were to start the engine build with a clean sheet I might very well have gone down that route. But with the current CAD designed equal length headers that really took ages to design and build to use every little bit of space as possible it's not worth starting over to change turbo. The Gen 2 GTX3582R compressor map is ideal for our engines so think it will be a very very good match. And while the 9180 has a big hausse (and well deserved) I still made 682 rwhp @ 1.5 bar with the Gen 1 GTX3582R so there's several ways to skin a cat
