Bosch 044 Fuel Pump ?'s
So I thought with the mild mods I have it might not hurt to update my fuel pump, as I don't know if it's ever been replaced, and it can't hurt to have a better one, so I bought a 044. Of course then I did some research on installing it and the Internet seems to have not reached a decision on whether or not you need to update the wiring and relay when installing it. I'd like to avoid modifying the wiring harness so if I had to I would probably sell the 044 and buy a HV from LR. Also anyone know a good place for metric to hose fitting in LA?
Any direct experience running the 044 on stock wiring and relay?
87 951, 15-18 PSI, stock K26/6, AFM, Max chips, 3bar FPR, Larts SS fuel lines, rebuilt stock injectors, LR DP WG, MBC, 3" with Cat and straight pipe.
Thanks!

Any type of hydraulic hose shop should be able to help...Parker, COMOSO, Hose man, etc.
If you don't mind the drive there is a German metric hose supply place called Hatec in Rancho Cucamonga.
They have awesome prices and friendly people - I bought a 2ft and a 4ft section of -10 stainless oil hose, crimped with my required fittings, for $30 once upon a time.
As far as wiring the pump, I would definitely add a relay just for good measure.
It wouldn't be hard - you could just mount the relay next to the fuel pump in the back of the car, and use the OEM fuel pump wires to trigger the relay coil.
Run a new, larger wire from the fuse box/battery to the relay terminal 87, connect terminal 30 to the pump + and find a nice ground point on the chassis back there.

I've been running a 044 bosch pump in my 951 with my M-tune for the last 4 years without the added relay with no issues. Just my experience. I am running E85 and my 951 is a track only car, so it is running must of the time at WOT.

The stock wiring is too small for the 044, there will be a large voltage drop. You should run new wiring and a relay for it. The 044 is also louder, not helped by the fact that you cant really use the stock pump "pill" thing to quiet it down.

I have had no problem running the 044 with the original wiring. It is a different shape than the original pump so you will need to get a different clamp band. Also the suction side to the tank is a bit different. I went with LRs adapter. I had some left over silicon hose that I used to pad the system which helped with the noise created by vibration.
