86:
Early offset- more wheel options
Different control arms than later- can switch to early steel arms though
Different rotors ect
Non-airbag
Non-abs I believe
Lighter weight compared to 87

87
Later offset-less wheel options
Airbags
Abs
Heavier about 200lbs
More common brake parts ect due to the offset changes
Suspension gets better with newer years but can update 86 years easily
2 piece crossover- later 86 has it though
Later models like Turbo S and 89 believe they all had 26/8 vs 26/6 turbo 250bhp vs 217bhp

Those are a few thoughts that come to mind

Honestly I like the 86 better because of the lower weight, more wheel options and converting to steel arms is a great feature keeps maintenance cost a little lower especially if you track it. Really I don't find that huge of a difference that it matters cause they are the same cars and everything can be switched over. Now some later cars have cast instead of forged rods it's believed to be the newest years but there hasn't been consistency with it. I think most still get forged rarst rods and a few black sheep don't. But that's my preference, if you find a car you like go for it don't hesitate because of year differences.

Thanks Conrad, i really appreciate, as per the wheel option what are they? As the car i might be buying has the early offset phone dial and i would like a second set of wheel for snow tire… which wheel could i use?

Ford 86 cars your offset is 23mm I believe so really almost any porsche or aftermarket wheels fit just check the offsets most wheels are in the 45mm+ range which means the will be further behind your hub so you will need spacers to push them out a bit. Later cars can't run low offsets because they get pushed to far out towards the fenders which makes it so they need the higher offsets which limits wheel options more. If you find a set of wheels you like just make a post and we will tell you if they'll fit hope that helps some, hard to explain through typing :P

Thank you guys, i have a set of d90 wheels, so my understanding is that to have those fit on the 86, i will need 1" spacer on all four wheels is that correct?

Would that affect drivability?

Thank you

Late offset you can use a wide variety of OEM (911,996,986,987 997 etc) and most aftermarket wheels WITHOUT spacers, which is ideally what you want to do.

You might be able to fit the wheels in a 86 but spacers or and longer studs are required.

Hi Lart, so, if i run the D90 wheel on a 86 951, i will need to put 1" spacers? do you still have those for sale?

If so, do you still do your 10% for reenlister?

I am still in talk with the seller, but if the sale go through will you sale those to me, or you guys do not recommend using spacer that big?

thanks
