Default The RP968 It's a bit of a thing...

Hi Guys thought I should post up a bit about my little project. I bought this shiny 968 for a turbo conversion Xmas 2006.

I tracked it through 2007, we started the original work 2008, but due to all sorts of reasons it just languished in the shop and in my garage for a number of years as these things happen.... I did a lot of work developing my 951 but I had a bit of a moment with that one day at the track so that was when we decided to gat back to my real project. It was always meant to be a track car, but I think Patrick (333pg333) inspired me or lead me astray, but when I was first talking to one of the engineers on this project he just mentioned in passing 'So you are building a time attack car' it was then that the project creep began.
So off it goes on the tow truck April 14

When it finally got back on the truck it had been modified. October 15

It has a few nice features...

We scanned the car to make the model for the cfd development. This whole project was only really possible because I met Sammy Diasinos. I think we had talked a bit on the phone but I first met him in one of the garages at WTAC 2014. He was working for a team who was sharing a garage with the S15 of Scorch Racing. Up until this point we were going to use GT3/RSR suspension, we'd already been bumped up to the top class due to the class rules, but once I saw Under Suzuki's car, with the huge tunnels going through the rear suspension I realized that there was potential for big aero developments, the gt3 stuff wouldn't be good enough. The S13 was very fast, it nearly won, a rwd car with a semi pro driver up against an everything evo with a pro driver. I could see similarities of the 944 platform to the Silvia, but I knew the advantages we have too, it was very inspiring.

Such an amazing endeavour Rod! This is a legend in the making and will only grow in status. Not only in the Porsche Transaxle village either. Can't imagine what it took to get it to this point. A lot of mental energy by a lot of very smart people. Was awesome to see it last weekend on the track even briefly. Can't wait to watch it's progress. Guess you'd better reveal the car in this thread as the questions arise. Congratulations!

Mounted the chassis on the table, dummy mounted the albins sequential, started the cutting.

Started the new cage

A few pipes.

A few more pipes..

Work moves to the front, more cutting.

Boxed in the front fenders, the 968 is already an improvement over the 944 but this is a simple light improvement on that.

A lot of fabrication

Awesome build Rod, engineering art in its finest form. Love it. More pictures plz.

What EFR did you use 7670 or 8374? is it a good match for 3l 16vT?

The title of this thread has to be the understatement of the year.

What an amazing build mate, simply incredible.

Congrats on your achievements at WTAC too, a very impressive performance on it's first outing!

While all the chassis work was being done, the body was being made a few hundred miles south of Sydney. Engineering was all done in cad so the moulds were cnc'ed from mdf.

Moulds are then hand finished.

Vacuum bagged

Left to cure

Ready for trimming

Trial fit in factory

Custom flywheel by TTVRacing to suit Tilton triple plate clutch

Custom machined 106 Wossners

It's a MID sleeved 968 block, balanced
(not lightened) crank, Carillo rods with Michael Mount bearings, ported 968 head,1mm oversize intake and exhaust valves, Catcams cams, solid lifters and dual wheels. Balance shaft delete, Custom Plenum Creations intake, BW EFR 9180 turbo with twin scroll housing to suit manifold Motec

If you look closely you can see the new oil drains so we can switch the head around. We machined off the sprockets on the cams to give us more clearance.

Bleeders on what is now the high side of the head.
