ebay 89 turbo going for 40k+!!!

Anyone see the white 89 turbo going for over 40k! Wow!

18kplat 07-20-2015 12:54 AM

Yes , I saw it !!
I have heard hints that the values of 944 turbos and particularly 951S's are moving up. This Saturday a 1986 turbo with 9,500 mi went for about 35k (with commission ) at Auctions America in Santa Monica ca. The 930 prices have gone ballistic the past two or so years and there is probably a trickle down effect. Let's hope 951's are finally getting there due respect

I see the same trend also here in Europe. I just don't understand why this particular car, except it's being Turbo S. Maybe that enough and you don't need perfect car to get such price if it's Turbo S car?

hot-J 07-20-2015 11:07 AM

I thought the same. Its in great shape with semi low mileage. .. but 40k?

It could be the 944T and 930 are having happen what has happened to muscle cars.

Poeple that have money and wanted these as a teenager (and had poster of a Porsche with a mostly naked lady hanging on their bedroom wall) want to relive their glory days and want the car they wanted as a teenager but could afford. Now they can and driving prices up.

The price of a new Porsche is probably helping too.

Its not hard to get a boxer to $100K.

That's a lot of money to pay. That would make it worth converting a 944 to a turbo instead of buying one.

Car went for $40,100 this morning......................Strong $$ for this car

Humboldtgrin 07-21-2015 07:16 PM

Daaaaaaaam!!!! Sweet my car is worth almost as much a I put into it!😄

Strong money, especially for a car that doesn't have its original wheels, doesn't have its original head unit, lacks headlight washers, doesn't have a split rear seat, is still on its original clutch, doesn't have the prestige of a "real" 1988 Turbo S, etc. This is a far from perfect car, but reflects the rising market for these special vehicles.

Agree. I had a roommate with a 944 Turbo poster on his wall. He drove a Monza. We called it the: "Monzarati" and I had a 1978 Subaru AWD wagon. The support of all manufacturers designing/selling small inline displacement turbo motors within their upper echelon cars, in my opinion, is helping the "old school" turbo cars get respect. 20 years ago, folks would ask me: How many cylinders? They thought the SC parked next to me had to have more power based solely on the displacement. That's now no longer part of the dialogue.

I had started several discussions and even a thread here on the list, the trend started in the mid of 2014, 911's and 993 jumped to unbelievable levels, 914 are also high, and unmolested 944 turbos are climbing as well. I have some statistics of my daily research. 968 have gain modest value but not nearly as high as the 951's and 986 (Bosxters) are dirt cheap. I'll look for my data but there was a 88 Turbo s that sold for over 80k and 2 or 3 1986 951's with low miles over 30k, yes unmolested 951 will go high

lart951 07-22-2015 12:09 AM

You guys realized that I search all over the country, on forums , craiglist, eBay, etc etc for 951's that's how I know 24/7, this is my business

blown 944 07-22-2015 12:25 AM

So what's an extremely molested 951 go for then? LOL
