Default Help me choose! Standard or 1.4mm. head gasket?

I'm right at the crossroads between the standard and the thicker HGs. Which would you guys go for?

Block has been decked to 229.95mm./ 9.05315“
Head has been shaved to 23.90mm./ 0.940945"
Piston to deck height 0.279mm./ 0.011"
Wössner rods
LR lightweight wrist pins
Bearing clearances 0.05mm.

Thanks. I don't have an adjustable cam gear, but I have the offset keys in 2 and 4 degrees. I'm guessing that the 2 degree one will be closest. How do you calculate offset correctly?

The fwsm gives you the machining limits for standard 1.1mm gasket. When this is exceeded go to 1.4mm.

I think I have been misreading the fswm. I read the refacing dimension and step up to the next head gasket as as soon as the head is below 23.90mm the thicker HG has to be used. In other words,if the head has been shaved only 0.1mm. down to 23.89 it is time for the thicker gasket. After looking at the numbers it seems the standard HG is fine as long as the head is 23.8 or more, but I'm not sure which interpretation to go with.

if it were my engine (may well be in this situation soon) i would use the thicker gasket.

the 1.4mm gasket would leave you ~1.1mm piston/head clearance.

I agree it is safer. Unfortunately the 1.4 does not have a wide fire ring...does it matter?

Wide fire is a waste of time - probably worse than stock.

Why bother with anything else than Cometic MLS?

I'll take the bait.
Only because I want to install it yesterday and I have one 1.1 WF and one 1.4 standard sitting in front of me? Besides, its seems they are less likley to leak and they don't need any fancy torquing procedure?

I may go with an MLS on the next engine though.

Also, for the Cometic / MLS, doesn't there need to be a fine machine finish on the block and head surfaces? I ordered an MLS gasket for my build, and then I read about this. Since only the head had been machined, and not the block, I just used a regular turbo head gasket.

Don't forget to consider the difference in compression ratio with the 1.1 or 1.4mm head gasket.
