Just the lighting on the rods. I won't ever use them however.

SDS system is gone.

The block and crank girdle are toast. You can see right from one side to the other on piston 4. Amazing to me is that the rod bearing even on the broken rod is completely undamaged. I assumed a bearing seized until I took apart the engine.

I have the original 40000km block from my other car, it will be a sleeved 2.5L.

I'm thinking of using the same pistons Shawn used.
Actually since you asked I have a question for you. Will 4.040 or 4.060 pistons work with the sleeves you and Shawn chose, cylinder wall thickness related? I searched but have not found an answer.
I have 3 2.5L cranks and 3 cylinder heads and 2 cam towers to choose from. Probably going to use the Michael Mount head for the first engine.

At some point I will pick up a second block but that's last on the list and will most likely be a 16V head from MM.

Yes, for an offset grind they are useless. I suppose you could measure the skirts to be sure they aren't collapsed. I'm not sure what you'd do with them though..

You should be able to bore it to 4.04, but I would start at 4.030 to be able to do one cleanup if needed. If your're sstarting with a 2.5 crank, you'll either want to use the Pistons I used in the original build, or the ones Shawn did in the second build.

K awesome thanks for the advice on that.

stumbled across this place. expensive but looks like one kit uses off the shelf chevy pistons. I would hope the cost included installing the sleeves.

None of that will work with a stroker. I think some are plated.

Best thing to do is plan it out with a local machine shop that is comfortable with installing iron sleeves in an aluminum block. Spec ductile iron flanges sleeves and you should be fine. Make sure they leave them proud about .002 for settling.

The original 106mm sleeves were done by Precise in Calgary, I beleive they are a Rolls Royce part. They also have a great crank grinding setup, and could easily do the offset grind.

Not much progress except cleaning. I've been working on my neighbor's 86

Just pulled the head yesterday on his and found the metal ring on cylinder 1 was no longer round. Glad I pulled the head His car has taken up most of my time.

Will try post some pics of it today

With the dive the Canadian dollar has taken lately things are going to slow down a bit.

I bought most of my stuff on par but now paying extra 30%.

That's the classic cyl 4 headgasket failure. Mine did the same thing.
BTW cyl 4 is closest to the firewall.

Default progress on friends engine

Edit: car and engine is now mine as neighbor quit the project late summer/ fall 2020

Working on 86 as well as RAGE2 car.

Friends block going off to Michael Mount along with crank for offset grind

Block and engine parts cleaned up quite nice. Bottom of oil pan had contamination from sand and gravel due to previous owner driving it with an oil pan gasket that was bulging out in one spot. Very poor maintenance.

Nice to have a Hotsy parts washer at work.

Well some progress now. The block in the above picture is now on route to Michael Mount and the crank is on route to Mile High Crankshafts in Denver. Co

Glad you're making progress.

Are you going off the shelf piston, or custom?
