Square or Staggered tyre setup?

It's about time i put my enkei nt03 wheels on..

And for some reason, I really want to give the Achilles 123s a try. I've heard so many good things about these 'cheaper' tyres, I know a few people who swear by them and the Formula Drift guys love these things.

Wheel size:
8.5" x 18
10 x 18

But they're limited in sizes..

Ideally i want 8mm thread depth..

265/35R18 (8mm tread depth)
255/35R18 (4mm tread dept), I think they come in 8 also
235/40R18 (8mm thread depth)

i was thinking 265 square setup. Thoughts?

If you are running standard offsets up front with stock fenders 265 maybe a little tight. The largest I was able to run with stock fenders and offset wheels was 245 with 275s in back.

Keep us posted if you go the square set up

My front wheels are 8.5" x 18 50 offset. I have 1" spacers

Will the 265 fit or be to tight?

Paulyy 02-16-2015 11:00 PM

Going 265 all around. If they don't fit, i'll make them fit. I'll machine the spacers and make sure they fit.

I reckon you should be able to fit them. I fitted 10's on the front with some persuasion from a fender roller. Because you're running a spacer you should be able to play with that if necessary. Maybe the tyre place might let you dummy fit one from your rears onto the front wheel for a test?

Patrick,

I have 1 inch of spacers to play with. I think it should be possible. i had a look at some calculators ect
Even if i have to run extra camber (i shouldn't have to)

I though of you running 10s at the front, which are 255mm in width. so another 10mm of tyre should be fine.

I got the 1" spacer on the car and put the rear wheel at the front. it fits.. Has 30mm i think from the suspension and just sticks past the guards. so the 8.5 with a 265 should be okay. If i have to, will machine the spacers. Then again, when the suspension compresses, the wheels camber in more and will tuck in.

Anyway it should manage.

A square setup, should be interesting..

265 in front is no problem. Plenty of space. Pretty sure it should be possible to get 285 on my car, with wheels that extends further innards. (I use steering limiters, but that is not needed for 265)

I have a set of 205/50/17 Achilles on my Mazda 3 GT they are ok. pretty hard compound. Probably completely different than the ones you are refering to but for that car bang for the buck totally worth it.

Square all the way, and stiffen up that rear sway bar so the car will have a wonderful oversteering attitude.

>200 treadwear tires make for high lateral Gs.

Looking forward to seeing pics of your setup.

I ran 275 Nittos all round on the Enkei 10's. They fitted easily in the rear and as mentioned with a bit of rolling in the front. I will say that our cars are not all the same. What fits on one doesn't always seem to fit on another.

265 Square setup.

We machined the front spacers 2mm. clearance is good..

here's some quick photos.

Damn.. That looks sweet Pauly!

wheels look great Pauly. Be interesting to see how they effect the handling. Mine came squared off and pushed something shocking, but tyres were crap and mismatched front to rear
