Default Thinking about modifying my intercooler

At the moment i have a CX racing intercooler core. Chinese probably.

I feel that i'm not getting enough air to my radiator and want to make the intercooler smaller.

The Core (not including end tanks) is 18 x 11 x 3. I feel the section behind the numberplate is a waste as no air is actually cooling it.
So i'm thinking to modify it to be a
18 x 7-8" x 3" (SFR is similar size but 3.5" thick)

Thoughts on this?

And another question. Oil coolers and intercoolers, Are they the same core types?

Edit:
Not cutting any vents in my bonnet. not modifying any body at all.
Not adding external devices like water sprayers.

Thanks

Why not relpocate the license plate first? I did this with stock intercooler and the charge temps dropped.

what kind of ducting do you have under the bumper cover?
though small, the stock grill openings should be plenty to cool everything. you are probably averse to adding a hoot vent so i would say build ducting to force air through the coolers.

are you running hot?

running hot. trying to maximise the efficiency of the cooling system. at the moment the intercooler is only getting 50% airflow. so if the size im thinking of going. the whole core will be getting cooled. and more air to the radiator.
just not sure if the size is to small

the small openings can actually work well for cooling - if you build the duct so that it goes from the small opening and opens up to the full core size itd be sufficient - think the shape of a naca duct...

I don't plan on modifying the body of the car.

All i want to do is maximise airflow to the radiator, intercooler and possibly oil cooler(when upgraded) though the front bumper.
So i want to make the intercooler smaller... as stated in the original post.

I will add aluminium channels to direct flow to the rad ect... not a big deal.

Rather live in Florida, imo the only place I would like Norway's weather is one square foot in front of my intercooler.

I haven't read your entire build thread, so was there a reason you didn't modify the original intercooler with say a boost triggered water spray setup ?

You don't need an intercooler up there!!

I don't like running stuff that requires adding extra liquid such as water sprayers & meth injection.

not to much on that site. But don't plan on buying another one. I'll be modifying mine if with anyone with cooling experience can chime in.

It still should have more cooling than the factory one as there's more surface area for the air to hit.

Have you tried using a properly ducted standard intercooler ? If you don't want sprayers or bonnet vents I wonder how obstructing air flow to the water radiator on a tuned engine will work.
