Steel Wide body 951/LS3
Finally got back on my 1989 Turbo LS3 Hot Cam conversion. We actually widened the steel body both front and rear to accommodate 12X18/335x30 rears and 10X18/275x35 fronts. Added new fiberglass hood with heat extraction vents and right and left side exhaust. We are completing the custom rear diffusor. I will start posting the progress.

I will forward some pictures of the engine bay later this week. Smoothed out the firewall and removed and filled all the holes except for the main harness and fuel line. Also removed all the dimples and brackets on the inner wheel wells. Will be mounting 968 mirrors and door handles along with the front turbo bumper with a Tony G front splitter color matched

When you grind right down to the metal like that, the hot dip zinc coating is gone. How do you ensure that rust never gets a foothold? Especially on the inside, hard to reach areas where moisture might live.

Gentlemen,
We metal etched all the bare metal then primed, sealed and painted. With the interior out of the car you have full access to the inner fenders. Yes I am going to run dual side pipes. We are using a LS3 Hot Cam motor making near 500 HP we are using 1 7/8" Kook's custom long tube headers going into a Burns 4" Oval merge collector, then we have 4" oval SS tubing going to another Burns merge collector from 4" to dual 3 1/2" oval to each side then to dual SS round outlets similar to the original 918 design. The picture that Bob references with the rear fender vents is similar to what we are doing to the front and rear one of our 944 Track race cars with a 350+ HP 968 NA race engine.

Looks awesome! Great craftsmanship. Looking forward to seeing that side exhaust finished!
Any more details on the hood? I really like the look. Does it negate the need for crossmember spacers?
