Just poking around.....

Hey fellas,

It’s been a while since I’ve posted but read a few posts from time to time. Life’s been extremely busy with work and I was a bit burnt out working on cars for a while and instead did a bunch of work on the house. I’m embarrassed to say the 951 has been sitting in the garage under cover for too long with the nearly completed 3.0L sitting in a plastic bag on a stand next to it. As pathetic as it sounds I only need a clutch, water pump studs, and oil galley plugs to finish the motor….well and a new cam since my new JME cap took a 10’ fall from my attic and broke in half. I bought a 13 Audi S4 for my daily driver but it’s pretty booooooring compared to the 951 or Z06 but is perfect for my 110 mile daily commute. The spec car sits waiting for me to get motivation to work on the body wiring harness, and after years of abuse the stock shortblock on the Z06 finally let go this week. I figure I put 100K miles on it, added 150 HP, had about 20 hours of track time, countless and repeated full throttle runs, and a dozen dyno pulls so it’s been a pretty good workhorse. Now it’s time to decide which one do I get back on the road first the Z or the 951????

So that being said I noticed my membership is gone? I thought I was a lifer? Maybe not. I hope all of my old friends are doing well.

Jeremy

Welcome back. You lose your 'lifer' status when you let your car sit untouched for too long. ;-)

I'm in a similar boat, though my engine is intact... Just too many other priorities for a while...

Get the 951 back on the road. I'd fear getting mired in the Z06 rebuild and ending up having 2 unfinished projects sitting around.

Goof to see you back around. I vote 951

Nice to have you back. I was wondering what happened with you and that engine I sold you. Get that thing on the road and enjoy it. You will have lots of fun with that 3 liter.

Hey Jeremy
Great to hear from you !!
You were so helpful to me in the beginning, when I first joined Rennlist.
You were an invaluable resource and a good guy...
Always sound, sage advice too ;)
In my estimation, one of the pillars of this board
We missed ya. Hope you vist more often

Best regards
Ed

Dang both toys down, that sucks.

The Z would certainly be a quicker fix if you just fix/replace as is.
The real question is whether you make it a power upgrade or just get it back together.
How bad is it hurt? think the block and crank will live

You're lucky you only broke a cam, I fell 11 ft though my ceiling in the shop before getting the drywall up, and I think there's a new hip in my future.

I thought I was a "lifer" here also, but I'm not as "special" as you are I guess. I even tried to renew my membership online but can't figure out how to keep the same username. No reply to my enquiry either, but oh well. Here's my vote-
#1: Finish the 951
#2: Come to Flag and pick up the Spec Car axles
#3: Get some help (labor) from our friends in Phoenix to finish the Spec car in return for ADVICE on theirs so you don't get burned out again.
#4: Fix and get rid of the Z06 before the kids can drive
#5: Teach the kids when it's safe to drive fast and when it's not
#6: Start working on a big old Suburban or something similarly heavy, slow, and safe for them to drive.
#7: (short term) Make room in your garage for me to park my 951 while it's snowing here this winter.

you should get it. you'll get a ton of service from it.

Welcome back. Is there even a question in your post??? The 951 of course.

I still owe you several days of free labor that you can collect on any time. Let me know when you need someone to help out.

DFASTEST951 11-01-2014 07:18 AM

I always wondered what happened to you. Like the others, get the 951 going. Mines been down longer than yours.

"I’m embarrassed to say the 951 has been sitting in the garage under cover for too long"

Don't be too embarrassed...mine has sat covered in the garage since 200 miles after I bought it (5 years ago). Only out for the occasional start up and wash. Now that's pathetic. :banghead:
