Yes, '86 and below, including the turbo, is early offset and will not work on '87+ cars... The biggest bummer about that being no fuchs on '87+ cars as they were all early offset.

So if you have late offset wheels.....you need spacers to run them on early offset cars.....appears the early offset phone dials were ET23....so to get them to about ET50, you would need a 25 (ET48) or 30mm (ET53) spacer.

Mike-

That's odd....sounds like you have some 928 wheels....or you have spacers already installed. If you want to drive your car over this weekend, I would be happy to let you try them on the car to see if they fit.

Paul, I lost you part way through the that.

You said "So if you have late offset wheels.....you need spacers to run them on early offset cars....."
Agreed

"..appears the early offset phone dials were ET23"
No idea, I will take your word for it

"....so to get them to about ET50, you would need a 25 (ET48) or 30mm (ET53) spacer."
I don't understand this - I think it is the opposite - to get an ET 50 wheel to an effective ET20 offset (so it will work on an early offset car) you need the spacers.

I think this is what you said at the start of your post, but it seemed to take a left turn in the last bit.

Not trying to be picky - just want to make sure I understand. I have an early offset car and have been looking for a good 17" staggered set up.

Default Are these phones from a 928?

Paul, good point on the off sets.

Maybe someone else here can help with this? I will try to attach a pic of the car here as well.

Again, the Blue car above has: front - 7JX16 ET65, rear - 9JX16 ET60 stamped on the wheels. Are these originally from a 951? Or perhaps another car (928).

Realized this looking at Paul's wheels that he is selling.

its hard to tell from your picture, however they appear to be 23.3 mm early wheels to me. The early wheels are very easy to id as they have a large lip on the rear especially and late wheels have no lip and the "phone section" sticks out past the lip. Attached is a photo of my fully polished 23.3 mm early wheels.

As others have stated, you certainly can run late wheels on an '86 however you need to run spacers. I have a set of polished Cup wheels in 17" that I prefer the looks of over these.

Also sorry for the poor photo, if you need any others let me know.

Default Nice wheels

Those polished wheels look very nice. Did you polish them yourself or buy them that way? If you did it, how difficult/time consuming was it.

Thanks md, I did them myself. This project is not for the faint of heart, it took me 3 years and no finger prints to do it. I love the results, but I like everyone else that has done it would never do it again to these wheels.

Mike, I don't doubt what you're saying, but could you post up a photo of the markings you're looking at?

IIRC, neither early or late offset PDs were made in a 9", aluminum, fitment. The only 9" PD I'm aware of was made of magnesium and fitted to the rear of the M754 escort/turbo cup cars.

And if you have a pair of those rears, they would certainly be worth more $$$ than standard PDs.

Mel- I will have the car back next week. Will try to get a photo then. The codes I put here were given to me by my mechanic. I don't think he would be making a mistake. Regardless that would pretty neat if these were the wheels you are talking about.

What do you think about the offsets? They don't seem typical from what I gather searching around.

I have never heard of that offset on any phone dials, as I said before your wheels appear to be normal 86 turbo phones. If you have mg phones, I am up for a trade!!
