944 s2 bellhousing fit 951
Hi, I am in the middle of a 3 litre build and have a question with regard the bellhousing. I am using a 951 flywheel/clutch with the speed and reference sensors but have an S2 bellhousing. Will this work as I have read of issues with starter motors while swapping bellhousings around.
The sensor holes are on the bellhousing, even thou it is an S2.
Thanks

I had read that also, that is why I posted here to see if anyone could confirm this. There seems to be some confusion as some bellhousings on ebay are listed to fit S2 and turbos and others just for turbos. The part number on mine is 944 116 401 5R. Just to confirm I wish to use this with a 951 flywheel and clutch.
I am sure Lart is correct, as he has broken one or two over the years and must have seen the differences between the part numbers, also I would have bought the correct part from him if needed .

The S2 and turbo bellhousings are different part numbers. I haven't tried it so I can't say definitively, but I held one of each side by side one time to look for differences - the starter opening is moved outward on the turbo's bellhousing. I think the opening was larger as well.

Hi Lart, I appreciate the starter motors are the same but is the location the same on both bellhousings ? As mentioned the part number i have is 904 116 401 5R. I can source another bellhousing if incorrect , but as I have this here be nice to be able to use it.

Hi, I ended up buying another 944 turbo bellhousing, part number ending in 2R, but by having them side by side I can confirm the distance to the starter motor is further out by about 3mm, just for future reference. Not saying it will not work, but I was not prepared to risk a new clutch and starter motor. Thanks for the help.
