Not sure on that.
I have begun to see interesting things since I put back the stock intake with my custom cam. The engine does not feel as restricted up top as it did with the 9R cam. Engine acceleration up top is clearly not as frank as with the short intake with a more feelable torque drop but the parachute-pulling effect starting at 5500rpm is not as brutal as with the 9R cam. It was to be expected but I did not expect such a strong variation. More results when it stops raining ;-(

One thing I'm curious about now and Harry may have an idea is what may happen when using an intake that flows say 20% more than the head. Isn't that going to cause some harmonic unbalance and alter ram effect in the whole intake tract?
I mean, if the differences in peak flow vary too greatly between the different sections of the inlet tract, isn't that going to alter head port velocity to a destructive extent?

I am doing quite a bit of research on the whole head stud main stud scenario right now. It is quite amazing on the differences in opinions I have received.

Patrick:

On your 9/16 setup, did they use Timeserts or Helicoils in the block for the studs? What torque recommendation did you receive for the head studs. I received a figure from Heritage that really threw me, 130 ft/lbs! What lubrication did they recommend for installation into the block and for the nuts. Feel free to PM me.

Porsche didn't design this engine to do a lot of pressure. If you stay below 20 psig they do fine.

At higher pressures, the cylinders shuffle, the head lifts and etc.

If you are going to do higher pressures, the block and head require major revisions.

It's more like a Tractor engine and no use to try with stock block / head to go crazy. We will never achieve those crazy 40psi+ boost figures, well not if you want to drive home. Maybe Sid could pump things up a bit at the Drags but he'd need a cage. I think if we had a better intake we could run ours to say 30psi on the straights. Would be interesting.

I ran over 20psi for years, never had an issue. I think I had it tuned to 26psi.

Paully its best if you stay of youtube for a while..... Sadly you would have to pump lots and lots of money before you get anywhere sufficient.

i didn't really post this, but if i really did post this, it'd say; good car w/ flawed powerplant, not horrible if not over-boosted, semi-exotic, petulant, expensive, pain in the *** to keep happy/maintain, engines sometimes worshipped by uber-purists/europeans/*****, w/ others often more fair and balanced, still over-boosted, wrenched and driven by astronauts, then, one day; BOOM, never boring, dissenters gtfo.

I was very hopeful that the deckplate and massive 9/16" headstuds clamped down much higher than stock would save me from doing something like this but no.
Not even at lowish 1.3bar boost. We were popping Cometic h/gaskets every race meeting. Not due to detonation either. So here we are now. Next......
your engine would be the perfect candidate. on something like 7:1 CR. Would be pretty useless for you though.
