Default Brittle Wiring Harness - rewrap with?

In the middle of replacing my down pipe due to an exhaust leak so have the intake and turbo currently off. I'm glad that I am going through the process as I have found a couple of problems.

One of my main concerns is the brittle parts of the wiring harness that run under the intake as I found the knock sensor wiring completely severed (yes, car was running like crap and this must be the reason why). Much of the wires are now exposed. I'd like to rewrap these wires throughout this area of the harness.

What does everyone recommend using to rewrap these areas? Electrical tape? Or, something more substantial? I saw the local auto parts store sells high temp tape like stuff.

Appreciate the feedback and / or recommendations.

Best way is to get new wires from lr and run all the way to the dme.

+1 on Lindsey. I am replacing the knock sensor and temp sensor and wires under the intake manifold.

Right -- a good heat sleeve is your best bet (along with new wires as needed). Summit Racing sells plenty too...

Just as a baseline, I believe that Ossi said 'Blue J' Hockey Stick Tape was a match for the stock wrap.

I've used black hockey stick tape for numerous car wiring projects, it looks nice and doesn't become brittle. Although it is probably not heat resistant like the fiberglass sleeve type stuff.

I've been using this http://www.wirecare.com/products.asp?prodline=nm

Looks like the sleeving Lindsey uses but more flexible.

+1. What I used, as well. I believe that the hard plastic used originally hurts the harnesses, because the wires have only a small amount of room they can flex. With the nylon mesh, much more of hte wire can flex, putting less stress on the wire where it goes into the connector. I rebuilt my entire wire harness myself for much, much less than any one of the various kits that are out there.

Is that hose expandable to slip over the connector end of the wires?

Thanks all... very helpful. I'll get some of the fiberglass sleeve stuff that Lindsey uses. I did buy the LR knock sensor replacement as my wire is shot...
