I did talk to John last week, unfortunately he doesn't have any experience with the '85, this build was based on an '87 S4. He mentioned he might be willing to take on a project but it wasn't clear what his schedule looked like, we didn't go any further really. My interest in the 928 as a track car is fairly weak (though I'm taking one to Laguna Seca next month so take that statement for what it's worth). I was mostly interested in seeing what I might be able to do with my donor car now that I'm pretty much done with it.

The 928's a great car, don't get me wrong. I think it has more potential than most give it credit for, but that's the problem; most don't give it any credit. The few that do concentrate on the S4 for good reasons. If you think building a 944 Turbo S is expensive you ain't seen nothin' John's '87 twins start at $16K and you send him a whole car first. That's just for the turbo engine.

Dan doesn't come right out and say what block his car was based on but I'm going to guess he started with a 1989 2.7L Turbo S? Anyone know for sure? Dan, you still on this site?

the 928 is a very good car for gran touring and desert events like the Silverstate Classic....

but my choice would still be the new Vette or my 968.

what would you think of running a desert race with an engine like this one in your 944?

he's got the intake set in reverse just like Tony G's track (944)....

weighs about the same as a 3.0 liter turbo. and will fit perfect in your upcoming S2.

I'm having the same engine (only with an oem LS9 cam for nice street manners) installed in my 968.

*Date was pushed back slightly, but she'll be done soon.

I'd think that times have changed a bit since 1991 That's a very scary motor! Good luck with it, you're really going to drop that baby into a 968? What are you going to do for a torque tube and transmission?

transmission is the 968 box with Audi A4 Diesel (taller euro car gears 3-6) built by Kevin Gross in Massachusetts. makes 194 mph @6000 rpm in top gear w/ 275/35/18. new Constantine shaft with Constantine Superbearings for the TT....

i'll replace the axles sometime next year.
