Default Installing filter element in AOS vs catch can?

Anybody tried modifying their AOS by installing a small filter element inside it, maybe from a shopvac or lawnmower (something small of course) to aid the oil separation, vs. just using an inline catch can?

Would a pleated paper element be too restrictive (pooling), or would a metal mesh be a better idea, if this is worthwhile?

There have been people that eliminate the AOS completely and run with a catch can instead, but I would be very wary of sticking a piece of paper into the AOS.

If you're looking for "cheap, easy fixes" then you have the wrong car.

Have you seen any benefits to removing the catch can compared to running both in tandem?

Well the AOS delete is doing exactly what the factory AOS is doing except taking up large space. Since i have a 3in down pipe the factory AOS runs real tight where is can possibly melt the factory AOS. So i opt to go the AOS delete route.

Instead of a small filter element (too much restriction when wet) people have used stainless scouring pad material. You just need to make sure to put a screen at the bottom to keep any rouge pieces from getting into the crank case.

I've been having oil passing through my catchcan so i've added some SS Steel wool in it so aid it. (haven't tried yet) I'm hoping it works. I've read a lot of positive about it, I will put a stocking or something in front so i don't suck any bits of steel in through the intake.

Be aware that the AOS is a sentrifugal separation design. if you take a close look you will see that the inlets are ofset to spin the mix in the chamber. This slings the oil droplets outwards where they hit the wall where they cling and seep back into the sump. The lighter air and gas is more easily sucked out the middle.

This is a well known and very effective method for separating liquid from gass. If you stick anything in there make sure it does not interfere with this function or you may lose some of the effect.
