Question on airbags! My little guy wants to sit up front.
Are the passenger AB's in my '89Turbo always on? Or do they run off a sensor in the passenger seat?
My son wants to go with me, but it isn't as much fun in the back seat.
TIA

Get either an older car or an older son.
Seriously, I suppose your choices are really either disable the air bag system, or just insist that he sit in the back. Once he's booster seat material, and properly held in by the factory belts, I think the airbag would work correctly in protecting him in the case of an accident.

Just reinstalled my rear seat belts for my 8 year old. North Carolina law doesn't allow the kids up front, so not an option.
If you're going to ride around the kids, a good time to ensure: seat belt hardware is correct (use oem bolts, etc), all bolts torqued to 30 foot pounds, the belts are in working order (yank them - they should seize immediately and also have no fraying or tears), and etc. Make sure your rear hatch seals completely - these cars draw exhaust through and could easily kill you if idling too long with leak. The owner's manual goes to great lengths to discourage unattended idling. Lastly, make sure your fuel lines over the manifold are new and that you have a fire extinguisher in the cabin. Not for saving the car but for getting the childrren out if a situation occurs. For this purpose, don't use Halon 1211, because it will make it impossible to breathe if used in a cabin with occupants.
Just did all of this myself for same purpose.

Just to throw this out there - my little guy used to sit in back too, until I put a rollbar in. Now mine is an '86 so no airbags to worry about - but after getting over the excitement of sitting in front, I think he preferred the back. You sit so low in the 944, he can't see over the dash, and barely out the door window.
