Not much of an update yet. I have reverse engineered the stock pan, so have all the original features measured and in CAD. Designing the modifications is next on my to do list. Next week I think I’ll have something to show. In the meantime:

Bellhousings, clutches and flywheels are now available for purchase at the link below. If you placed a deposit for the BH Alan will be PM'ing you a discount code. We were able to get the clutch kits priced below the standard 951 kits, which is awesome!

The limiting factor is the website itself, it’s difficult to have multiple different options for one item (besides a color, stage etc). I’m still figuring all that out.
it will likely end up being everything ala carte and then the complete kit once everything is done.

My engine is likely on the outside with my 88 Turbo. I really like the idea of this swap, more and more.
My question is, will it be able to pass smog/swap issues in CA. Have smog equipment, stock VW exhaust up to CAT. Etc.

sorry, but I really don’t know the CA smog rules. I think you’ll be facing an uphill battle though. Pretty sure V2 Rocket made some related comments on this thread.

You can swap newer motors into earlier cars, but not the other way around.
Swapped cars need to have a BAR sticker issued by a smog referee. I've heard accounts of them being extreme sticklers, as well as them being somewhat understanding.... I guess it's luck of the draw which one you get.
If you can reuse the VW ECU and mount the cat roughly as close to the exh man as stock, should be good. Need to use stock manifolds (or CARB approved aftermarket!) for compliance...

you'd need stock intake and exhaust manifolds which earlier in the thread were determined not to fit in the 944 chassis.
exhaust was "workable" with a mod but the intake apparently no go.
unless you can find space for the stock 07k intake manifold, or someone makes a CARB approved alternative intake manifold, 100% no way to smog a 07K-944 in CA.

so jealous of all the space in front of the engine.
i think i want that extra 4" more than i care about having a newer cheaper iron block timing chain engine, lol.
spent the last few weekends working on a new rad frame for a non-porsche rad so i can fit a big single rad fan to clear the ac and supercharger pulleys and spare some amps to run an oil cooler fan...but since i'm trying to move the alternator to the former PS bracket now the "PS belt" is perilously close to the lower rad hose which if it moves any further away from the alt will block off the expansion tank feed line on this rad...
it'll all fit eventually but i might get ~3/4" between fan and AC compressor when all done. stupid long 944 engine...
