This was a great chip on my car. It made great power and torque after I did the swap. Highly recommended.

I have a '86 951, so supposedly I have 217rwhp, would this really boost me to 235rwhp, as the graph chart indicates?

How much does it cost to have someone install it, or is it easily installed yourself?

Thanks!

A stock 86' is 217 hp at the crank, ~185-190 rwhp. A jump to 235 rwhp is a 50+ crank hp gain, more than 20%!

That's awesome! Why not go with the 26/8 chip that brings it up to 276 rwhp for the same retail price?

Because your chip needs to be matched to your turbo so that the airflow the engine gets is matched to what the DME expects. If you stick a k26/8 chip in with a stock turbo, you'll run pig rich and make less power than with the 26/6 chip. you COULD upgrade to the k26/8 chip and put in the k26/8 turbo to match, but for the trouble of swapping turbos, I'd just stick in a k27/8 with a matching chip and make 315+ rwhp and rwtq, which is a ~65% gain over stock and significantly faster. These cars are stupid easy to make power with up to about 370 crank hp, where it starts getting expensive. Once you double the factory output, its starts getting REAL expensive.

Okay, I don't even see the k27/8 on that Vitesse website. If I understand you correctly, I'd have to upgrade my turbo to obtain that 315+rwhp right?

I have the stock 1986 Turbo, does that mean I'm limited to the 26/6 chip?

Thanks!!! Sorry to highjack the thread my man, hopefully the love gets it sold for you asap. Once I learn more about this I'll probably be in the market to get one myself!!!

I don't know that much about john's products to be fair, maybe he doesn't make a chip mapped for the k27/8 turbo. But yes, no way in hell any k26 is going to make 315 rwhp burning pump fuel. The k27 moves a good bit more air.

Thanks Turner! I checked it out, definitely a lot to learn and absorb. I've got new belts and a new fuel line. I think there are some other rubber housing that needs to be replaced for sure though. My suspension is fine, but the calipers and brakes are about 50% or less, so not bad, but will need work down the road.

A wise man once told me to think about these cars as a series of systems. Get the systems 100% before modifying. SH944 looked at me and knew I wanted to go fast on the cheap.

He told me to get the car running correctly and caught up on any deferred maintenance from the PO's. After that can you start to modify the car. The problem with these cars is they are cheap now, and they can be relatively cheap to modify to get almost 50-60 WHP more out of them. But if the car isn't up to snuff to begin with and you start to modify it, it will be a ticking time bomb.

1. Make sure the belts, vacuum lines, and fuel lines are done first.
2. Make sure the suspenesion/brakes are in good shape. If the shocks and struts haven't been replaced they need to be. Trust me the feel of the car is leaps and bounds improved.
3. Fix any oil leaks. With more heat and power the car will just continue to leak more oil.
4. Make sure the coolant system doesn't leak and is in good shape.

After that has all done, then get into putting the chip and MBC on and have some fun. It sounds like a lot to do, but after it is done you will be really happy with your car. It won't leave you stranded as much. Haha.
