Default Big Red Brake Conversion Question

I am in the process of installing Big Reds on my 86 Turbo. I have the M030 spindles and 993TT rotors with the Lindsey Racing hats. For those that have done this conversion my question is what backing plates did you use on these larger diameter rotors? I bought 993TT backing plates and they will not mount up to the 968 M030 spindles.

IIRC, you have to remove the backing plates because the new setup won't fit otherwise.

Also, if you haven't already, we do a 944 meetup in the South Bay here. You should join us sometime.

Yeah, skip the backing plates unless you are going to run ducting to the rotors. If you want to do that there are some kits to run ducts to the center of the rotor.

Are the 968 M030 (Big Black?) rotors the same diameter as the 993TT? If so I would think the 968 M030 backing plates should work.

DOA, A South Bay get together sounds fun. Date, time, place?

No. IIRC 993TT rotor is the same size as the 928GTS or 964 3.6 turbo rotor...I run the 3.6 turbo rotors with big reds.

Ok, but are all those rotors the same diameter as the 968 M030 front rotor?

Got it. Sorry, I was being lazy. I googled and found:

944 Turbo & S2 rotors - 298 mm (11.73 in)

944 Turbo S & 968 M030 - 304 mm (11.97 in)

993TT et all - 322 mm (12.68 in)

Thanks Chris, I did hear you want the cooling air to flow into the center of the rotor, then out through the vanes to cool the rotor. Since my car is basically a street car, I am more concerned about protecting the brakes from debris, but I would be interested in looking at the brake duct kit. Who makes the best one?

Paragon has backing plates, with or without M030.
Lindsey Racing has a metal option but with less backing.

I have plates similar to the Paragon ones and they seem to work well, keep road debris out, control temps, no brake fade.

Correct, no adapters needed with MO30 spindles to fit big reds/blacks.

Brake Rotors for the track is one place where OEM is not the same as Porsche. I have been through many Big Red type rotors and the cast hole 964/993 rotors are far superior to the various 'OEM' rotors that are cheaper. The alloys used and the casting process is different and the official Porsche rotors can out last the OEM's by a factor of two.

This is just a general note - I don't know what Craig is using for his rotors.
