Any rear suspension experts that can tell me what might be off with the alignment on the drivers side rear wheel? You can see the difference from the front and from the back. The car is an 86 and I put 20mm spacer in the rear but I don't think the spacers are the problem. The spacers just made the misalignment easier to see. Chamber? Tow?
The car is accident free. My guess is too much positive chamber and maybe tow as well. The car drives decently straight otherwise. In my years of owning it I never noticed it until the spacers went in and I got occasional rubbing on the the driver side tire under full suspension compression. I guess I'm just going to have to learn how the rear alignment works and buy the tools to do it myself. I really don't trust a regular alignment shop to know how to work on the rear of the 944.
Find a Porsche specialist, or a performance shop, and expect it'll be more than the $69.95 tire shop special.
Alignments are one thing where you might get what you pay for...
A quality one will have minimal variations side to side, or they'll be able to explain why that wasn't possible, and what you need to make it so.
DIY alignments are possible, but takes a lot of patience.
Buy the toe adjusting tool.
I loosen the fasteners a little ahead of time, with the wheels off. It's a b*tch while you're lying on the ground!
Make sure you have the tool so they can do the rear end alignment. Unless its a porsche specialist, most shops wont have this tool and you wont find out until after they put the car on the rack (and charge you labor). You can definitely do the rear alignment on your own. I used a pair of laser levels, a good tape measure and this webpage: https://robrobinette.com/DIYAlignmentCalculator.htm. It takes time and a lot of tries, but with that, you can do a really good job because you actually care.
